Agreed. I've always argued that were SN to release it today, they might very well call it an imperial/dipa (instead of a Barleywine). However, I don't believe that style category existed at the time it was first brewed.
Just cracked a Captain’s Daughter — long time since the last one. Totally agree. Nearly pristine! Excellent.
This one was the only beer that approached too bitter for me. It's a monster, but as I got into it the bitterness was much less challenging. It's interesting bc it's so fruit-forward on top of the bitterness. I find pine and resin bitterness much easier to drink than grapefruit, but Dreadnaught is just a grapefruit bomb. The bittersweetness of it is super interesting too since the sweetness feels so authentic and not just a consequence of the ABV. Very very well done and that challenge is, in my opinion, why bitter beers are so good.
Rainy day roadside traveling pinch — picked up the last Troegs Double Nugget Nectar 4-pack on the shelf in a sea of NEIPA offerings. Took a wild guess on this one but the IBUs are there. Apparently they only do this one once a year. Grateful!
Been heavy into hazies for years… starting to fade out and back to the glory days, where WC was king. Thinking back, I’ve always preferred the crisp citrus and pine notes over the dank, resinous, and sweet notes.
Grabbed a sixxer of Firestone Odell collab Wandering Don from Whole Foods. Surprisingly good. Dry, clean, and bitter.
