Trying to make the return of cold weather a positive with pouring one of a dozen beers I transferred from the cellar to refrigerator last night (a case and a half to go!).

Full Cellar Review Thread linked here. Bottom line, this is several months beyond best by, and one of the few BCBS I've had that didn't fare well after the suggested expiration date. It's my own damn fault.

Not a parrot head, never saw him in concert, but these are two of my favorites I know by heart.

Kind of a jazzy little ditty ...1998 Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III

 

Uh, oh. You cut down too much. The neighbors are looking in

 

1) Modist Supra Black (5.0%): A Japanese Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of dark grains, yeast, Saki, and roast. Enjoyable and smooth.



2) Odell Old Doods (5.0%): An Irish Dry Stout from Colorado with flavors of bittersweet cocoa, roasted barley. Clean.

Both very similar here. I'd describe the Japanese Dark Lager similar to an Irish Dry stout. Slightly more sour with less roast. A little cleaner and less full-bodied as well. I slightly prefer the Irish Dry Stout.

The aroma and flavor are a bit light, but not too bad of a beer.

From a 32oz crawler canned on 4-6-2025. Consumed on 4-7-2025

This is a very black looking beer in the glass. When I put light to the glass, a very faint amber color shows up. The head is a 1 finger tan color. The head retention is decent and the lacing on the glass is very sticky looking.
The nose is so faint, which is a disappointment. I get a really faint licorice aroma, but not much else.
The flavor is very mellow up front. The flavor does get some licorice on the backside and a bit of hop bitterness.
The body is quite good. I do like how the hop feeling and bitterness lingers in my throat.
This beer is ok, but the weak aroma and lighter flavor do distract from it.

 

For me if it is hazy it has to be bitter. This one fits that bill. Cheers!

Having another Virginia brewed beer.

 

I am a Brown ale fan I don't drink them enough. I had no idea Chimay brewed a Brown ale. Having a hard time finding any reviews on line.
How is that? My bet is on better than fair..

 

On the patio . A beautiful 86 degrees with a steady light breeze . Enjoying a Union Jack. Been finding this fresh a lot lately,when i used to never find it fresh. An instant purchase when i do . Leftover (frozen ) spaghetti for dinner.

 

Fire pit looking nice . Your time of year moving forward.

 

Back home with a Hop Butcher Lord Octomoss DIPA. It's windy, 20-25 with rain bowing thru later, nice cooler temps coming.
