    2023 version shared by the venerable @Bishop across 18 people as a result of stout/barleywine BIF #2. Nose is explosive from the snifter, bringing massive vanilla and oak aromas from three feet away. Color is a refined clear light copper. No trace of carbonation, no head, but a slithering array of oily legs coat the glass with every move. The Solera style morphs this into something nowhere near a commonly conceived stout, but more a high intensity spirit. Flavors include sweet caramel and butterscotch, slipping into English barleywine territory. Cognac middle. The tiniest trace of a dark malt, just a splash on the very end of the sip. Tannins are present, but do not overly dry the mouth. Fusol alcohol cleanses the palate without any astringency. There’s a reason people seek this out and pay the hefty price. Ultimately smooth for a 28% lion of a drink.

    Northwest Red Ale from Stoup Brewing

    Sudsy and sturdy in the mouth. Odd aroma of grain and unidentifiable stuff. This seems like the classic Red Ale with the musty smell, malty taste, and excessively bitter finish. Call it a good example if you like, and it's drinkable enough but it's a style I just don't care for. Especially when it's so bitter with so little hop aromatics.

    Home again from day 2 of our live meet at Keeneland. Much better day than yesterday's monsoon like weather. Watching the NCAA Finals while my son and I are trying a Parish Brewing's Techno Snowman. Interesting and surprising cantaloupe flavor to this one.
