    I’ll be Bock!

I have yet to see new batches of Ayinger Maibock at any of my local beer retailers yet but as fortune will have it I ‘discovered’ a bottle of Ayinger Maibock ‘hiding’ in the back of my refrigerator. This bottle has a code of L3354 which by my reckoning means this beer was bottled on December 20, 2023 (so over a year old at this point). It is important to mention that this beer was stored cold for the vast majority of that year+ duration.

To my joy this beer held up well with continuous cold storage. It is still a tasty beer, very enjoyable to drink.

I discussed this same batch of beer last year (2024) in the Bock Thread basically a year ago: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/bock-thread-2024.675768/page-6#post-7954260

    Cheers!

I continue my starkbierzeit celebrations with Augustiner Maximator.

Dark toasted malt with notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, and a little dark fruit. Really nice doppelbock from the Munich locals favorite brewery.

Those do not look like the Maximator labels I see on shelves around here. Very wary now.

Double-checking with the German packaging code thread and re-checking my email exchange with the brewery a few years ago, my beer was packaged November 6, 2024--very likely the first packaging run of the season for it.

Is Maximator a seasonal? Always thought it was available year-round -- at least here in the U.S.

According to the person from Augustiner who responded to my email it is a seasonal. Here is what he said: "Maximator is a typical “seasonal beer”: we sell it only from November until ~ March."

When we were in Munich at the end of March it was no longer available at the Bräustuben. It was still available at the Augustiner Keller

Edit: I think it sits on the shelf year-round at a lot of spots given its price tag. I don't think I've seen bottles that were packaged outside of that November-March time period.

Does that include within the U.S. too?

If so, I've seen some really old Maximator still populating shelves! :grimacing:

When I went to Munich for Frühlingsfest some years ago I stopped at the Keller the night before the fest opened and had the Maximator. So, May of that year.

    "Haben Sie Maibock?"
    "Nein, aber Wir haben Starkbier."

Tasted pretty good, as far as I remember.

I think it does. I've only ever seen packaging dates within that November-March time period. I think it sits at a lot of places given the higher price.

Bock On The Train - Strange Design

A tasty Maibock that delivers on every expectation. Ok, maybe not so much on the “howlin’ wind”, but otherwise…

A bit dark, the bready goodness is all there. Enjoyed this a a couple other pints with a friend (Dave) and some hardy conversation. Supposedly no chickens were harmed during the brewing of this beer. No sighting of the Chicken Man either. Bock, bock, bock, BOOOOOOCK!

“6.4% ABV, 24 IBU - Just in time for spring to leave you standing at the station in the rain and turning your head into the howlin' wind. This traditional maibock uses a blend of Munich and Vienna malt for a distinct breadiness while specialty malts round it out with caramel and roast providing a complex malt profile. We lagered this beer for a month to allow all of the flavors to mellow and blend together. With a beer like this, it won't take you a long time to get back on the train.”

@SLeffler27 -- you and I may be the only ones left who remember Benton Harbor (Weeell, where have we heard THAT name before?).

It’s not just a city in Michigan.

The name should bring a shudder, OF FEAR, to all who dare to commit eVIL and laughter to the rest of us. At least during weekends.

Ayinger Maibock is a favorite of mine. Found some, relatively fresh, or at least as fresh as I can find them. Packaged on date of L4323, as far as I can gather, that is Nov 19, 2024.

Like all good Bock's for me, bready malts, sourdough, and bakery vibes all the way. There is a little spiciness, maybe some earthy hoppiness but hard to say for sure, and a sweetness. Though never cloying or unbalanced. It is really easy to drink, downed in big gulps as my favorite "drinkability" saying goes.

Reading Lily Tuck's new short novel along with this...The Rest is Memory. Um, a tragic Holocaust story, so the pairing is a little off...or is it?

Since you are successfully using Imgur to store your pics it must be that your issue is between Imgur and here.

When your pic is on screen at Imgur, copy the Direct Link to your clipboard, then come to your post on BA, place your cursor where you want the pic, then click on the picture frame above your post (just right of the smiley emoticon) and paste the link from your clipboard. Works every time for me.
