I'm drinking a fantastic barleywine that was given to me by @Resistance88 in an IP trade a little while ago. Forgotten Skies from Wondrous Brewing. This is composed of 3 main components; a 1.5 year old double barreled barleywine in Woodford Reserve and Makers Mark barrels, a 2 year old barleywine aged in a Willett Barrel and a 2.5 year old barleywine aged in a Heaven Hill barrel. 14% ABV.

The taste is rich toffee (maybe a bit salted), loads of bourbon barrels, ever so slight maple, slight vinous note, and oak. This one is quite boozy - it rivals Revolution barleywines (which happen to be around the same ABV). Really lovely and intense barleywine. Thanks, Tomas!

Quadruple barrel ADTWD #6, 32 months in a cognac and various brown liquor barrels. I got the box at 40% off, but 40% off waaaaay too much is still waaay too much. This close up from the label sums it up well:astonished:

I may not respect myself in the morning, but I will certainly enjoy this tonight:stuck_out_tongue:

It was a cold a dreary day spent cleaning out the garage, seems like the right time to open this up.

This is a dark, murky brown and the head dissipated quickly but the sexy legs make up for it. The aroma is rich and boozy but I wouldn't say it's hot. Mostly brown liquor but there is a hint of grape. There is also strong caramel, raisin, and molasses. I think I get more oak than I recall from the triple barrel versions.

The taste is marvelous but falls just a tiny bit shy of the triples I've tried. The abundant layers of sweetness and booze that the smell suggest would be here are all here, though the cognac is a bit more prominent on the tongue. The mouthfeel is amazing, my entire mouth remains coated in sticky sweetness long after I swallow a sip.

Yeah these are stupid beers for stupid people, but they are such a decadent treat and I haven't found anything else out there like them.

Barleywine X from Barreled Souls. A barleywine with vanilla beans, pecans, and brown sugar. Comes in at 11.1% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with minimal head. The nose is awesome. Vanilla, brown sugar, toffee pudding, pecans, granola, and Granny Smith apples.

The taste is really interesting. A great mix of flavors. Vanilla, graham cracker, maple, a touch of cinnamon, toffee, pudding, and marmalade.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is pecans and caramel. Great stuff!

I first reviewed this in January 2023

I found this borderline too sweet originally but it isn't hitting me that way now. Subtle maple and vanilla jibe well with abundant breadiness, light bananas foster, and a little something herbacious. A nice honey note too. I mentioned an unpleasant anise note originally that I'm not getting now. Pretty dang good, not sure when I'll revisit with my last one.

Huge thanks to @GreenBayBA for this treat! Iced Bourbon Barrel Barleywine from Central Waters. 17% ABV.

Really happy to try this new version. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first version, but this is definitely better! The nose is very different. I'm getting a big nutty note right away. Vanilla ice cream, bourbon, and caramel as well. The taste is still really boozy. The alcohol punch is definitely strong on this one! Compared to the last version, this does seem more balanced. More toffee and raisin notes come through this time.

I drank a few cans of the latest ICED. It's good but I get a odd taste in the finish that I don't notice in the other variants/ages.

2013 Old Guardian. I have reviewed numerous aged OGs over the years, so let's do another! This was purchased by me in 2013 and stored properly since. Pours a nice opaque orange/brown with zero head.

The nose is a beautiful thing. A wondrous mixture of caramel, pine forest, dates, light grapefruit, a bit of honey, and some stone (haha) fruit.

The taste follows the nose, but the sharp bitterness is a bit more dominant here. Grapefruit peel, pine, oak, toffee, plums, and more harsh bitterness from the hops. Crazy how bitter this after 12 years. Definitely more than a 12 year old Bigfoot.

Insanely dry, with a hoppy aftertaste. Fun experience!

2015 Harvest Ale from J.W. Lees. Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very opaque orange/red with zero head. The nose is old leather books, oak, cherries, plums, apricots, toffee, tobacco, and a light note of citrus.

The taste is insanely good. Much for toffee/caramel on the taste relative to the nose. Plums, oranges, apricot, leather, hay, musty wet blankets, meringue, oak, slight smoke, and an interesting candy note. Great beer!

Westbrook/Edmund's Oast Collab - There's Nuttin' Butter Than Another Pair of Cam Pants - Barrel Aged Barleywine w/Peanut Butter, Lactose, and Vanilla

I wasn't sure about what to expect of this one at first, but to my surprise it ended up being a very good beer that balanced the sweetness of the Peanut Butter, Lactose, Vanilla, and Maple with the booziness of the Bourbon Barrels. The oats and lactose give it a velvety mouthfeel

Really impressed by this beer, and I am not usually one to enjoy an adjunct laden beer!

This has aged wonderfully. Still has the nice warming toffee notes but the barrel aging is more noticeable. The color is a gorgeous copper-red. The aroma hit me the moment I popped the can. A perfect beer.

NBW cross-post. Forager Brewery and Humble Forager Brewery Elm. A barrel-aged English barleywine. It is aged 33 months in rye barrels, with organic golden figs, and Equadorian vanilla beans. Courtesy of @Beersnake. When I saw @bbtkd experience this beer, I was very jealous. Thank you, @Beersnake for allowing me the opportunity to experience this beer!
