Elm and Redwood are their best two BBA Barleywines. Is Humble Forager distributed around Green Bay?

I used to see a lot of their beers, but not so much recently. And definitely not those beers.

Enjoying a 2020 edition of Appalachian Walker, an EBW from Olde Hickory. This is about the same ABV as Bigfoot but with even with all the aged versions of Bigfoot i have had this one is so soft and subtle in comparison. And yeah, i seem to recall voting for ABW's in a poll of ABW vs EBW not so long ago:confused: but it's all good!
    Cheers!

Forgot to post this last night. A wonderful barleywine from Central Waters. Aged in bourbon barrels for five years. Courtesy of @GreenBayBA . I've tried this once before and loved it. Equally amazing this time! Thanks again for sending this one, Micah!

Vanilla, oak, plum, toffee, raisin, and loads of bourbon!

Enjoying one of my favorites after shark tooth hunting the last couple of days.

Here are some of our favorites among the over 100 we found @Beersnake all between 5-23 million years old

    Sharks represented are-

    Snaggle tooth
    Tiger
    Hammerhead
    Cow
    Lemon

We found our first shark vertebrae too!

Holy cow! That's amazing. That vertebra is super cool. The serrated teeth are crazy.

2008 Thomas Hardy's Ale from O'Hanlon's Brewing. 11.7% ABV. Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to warm for 10 minutes before tasting. Zero carbonation.

The nose is full of leather, prunes, figs, light toffee, rye bread, port, and biscuits. Intense aroma.

The taste is fantastic. Toffee, leather books, slight hoppiness, plums, sherry, oak, bread, hay, and a touch of grass. Lovely beer that has aged wonderfully over the past 17 years.

    Happy Easter!

Been awhile since my last Barleywine.

Having a very tasty English Barleywine Style Ale from Fremont (WA), 15.4%. Hoppy, malty, very nice dark fruit complex, bourbon/oak, vanilla, licorice. Big Beer/Sipper for sure.

    Cheers!

I scored another 4 pack with Elm in it at Woodman's in Onalaska last weekend.
I picked up some more of this beer: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28879/725245/ at Peoples COOP too. It's hard find in western WI. It sold out fast. It's a good one.

On The way home I stopped at Forager in Rochester. I had this Barleywine (Fawkes).

Big thanks to David (@Braunmeister_1943) for this one. This is the second can I've opened of this one, and it's just as good as the first. I wish more breweries would release straight up barleywines like this. Cheers!

New Glarus Thumbprint Series ~ Barley Wine 2024

Big thanks to @GreenBayBA for this one! He insists that I drink more Barleywine and he is right. I need to seek this style out more often.

The New Glarus take is surprisingly fruit forward to me and of the pitted orchard varietal. Like biting into a fresh peach or apricot here. I get a dab of honeysuckle sweetness with some soft caramel candy notes and just a touch of earthy hops underneath. It is slightly vinous making you aware of the wine aspects to this but otherwise it is very easy drinking for the ABV. This is a unique barleywine that is quite clean and really well crafted overall. I am very thankful for the opportunity to sample it! :beers:

If price, backstory and availability weren't factors, which do you think you enjoyed more from a flavor standpoint?

I think this might be the best @snaotheus sent out in the barleywine bif.

This is magnificent. The mouthfeel really stands out, it's full bodied, lightly sticky, and quite viscous with light carbonation.

The flavor profile is pretty unique. Butterscotch, caramel, and an earthy root beer note are all prominent right out of the gate. A light chocolate note joins in mid-palate. The adds plenty of rye and a very interesting herbacious, kind of exotic oakiness. Ryan, I am so tickled that I got to try this one, thanks so much!

They are honestly so different that it would be tough to pick. At the same age, I would probably prefer TH to Harvest Ale. They offer truly unique experiences though.

Poured from an 8.5oz bottle into a Snifter

    2004 No. P50526

The beer pours a murky deep brown color with no visible head, the beer is still, as one would expect after more than 2 decades in the bottle.

The aroma is sweet, with notes of molasses, raisins, plums, brown sugar, caramel, and a moderate booziness

The flavor is similar to the aroma; sweet and malty with notes of brown sugar, molasses, caramel, figs, raisins, leather, toffee, and a nice warming booziness. Medium bodied, and still. The beer is slick on the tongue, and has a lingering mild booziness

Overall this is a very nice beer, that did not disappoint. This has been sitting in my "cellar" begging me to drink it for several years now, and it certainly met my expectations.

2021 Mother of all Storms from Pelican. Stored properly since new. Poured at just warmer than fridge temp. The nose is full of bourbon, caramel, figs, molasses, and plums.

The taste is so freaking good. Bourbon-soaked caramel candy. Figs, huge amount of dark malts, molasses, slight maple, raisin, a slight hint of mint, a hint of black licorice. The booze is definitely noticeable, but it's perfectly balanced by the strong caramel taste. This is a really nicely integrated barleywine. Perfect age, in my opinion.
