"But something smells off to fans of the bar, as Parrott also plans to “kickstart a token ecosystem” named ToronadoCash."

Uh, the place always smelled off...

for the record, asking “when do i get my turn” to any bartender at any bar is by definition rude and confrontational. and whiny.

sometimes it takes an unusual amount of time to be served. piping up with a complaint about it isn’t how you fix that. you fix it by assuming positive intent (sounds like the bartender was quite busy) and making yourself visible with an empty glass

were you or your partner wearing dodgers gear by any chance?

He did make himself visible with the empty glass. As I mentioned before, it was only after being ignored for a long time that he spoke up. We assume positive intent until it no longer makes sense to. He is not that tall, so maybe that caused the bartender to not see him, but then it’s justified to let the bartender know he was waiting.

    No, we don’t follow baseball.

And I’m beginning to understand that you’re a prick. You laugh when I point out my partner was verbally attacked, and then defend the attacker and use “Cheers!” as an attack.

LOL. That's OK. You're such a nice guy and obvious gentleman, I'm sure you more than make up for my many shortcomings.

Possibly you should go back and re-read our prior posts. At least to me, a bartender telling your partner to calm the f#ck down doesn't seem like a verbal attack. Also, my response regarding your experience was one of sympathy and empathy. I still feel the bartender's response to your partner's request was uncalled for and inappropriate. Apparently you didn't feel my response was sufficiently sympathetic and/or sensitive, leading to a sarcastic quip (how happy you were that my wife and I had a nice time there). Hence my supposition that perhaps there might be more to the story you told about the ill mannered bartender at the Toronado.

Thanks. I’ll reply here since it’s past the time window to edit my previous post.

First, thanks for explaining in further detail where you’re coming from. I really appreciate talking it out (and I’m not being sarcastic, as sometimes it’s hard to tell online.)

Before anything else…the comment about being glad you and your wife had a good time there was sincere, not sarcastic. I’m sorry for it sounding sarcastic, that was not my intention. Even if we won’t go back to Toronado, I do want people to have a good time wherever they go, and I don’t wish what happened him to upon anyone.

I have to disagree about the phrase “calm the f—- down” - especially with the f-word thrown in, that’s a verbal attack. The bartender could have said something that didn’t have to hide his annoyance, without it rising to the level of an attack (i.e. a short “I’ll get to you”, or something like “I see your glass, you don’t have to get my attention” like one of the previous posters quoted.)

There isn’t more to the story, my partner waited for over 10 minutes and saw many people who came afterwards get served before him, and it was only then that he spoke up. But the bartender’s response really made it seem like it was intentional. Which was a shame because we used to really like that place.

Then, disagreeing about whether he should have spoken up is one thing, it’s fine to agree to disagree, but responding to me being upset about my partner being told to “calm the f—- down” with LOL & a defense of the bartender was not something I could stay silent about.

Anyway, I think that’s as thorough as I can get. I know this was wordy, so thanks for reading.

Thanks for the response. This gives me a better perspective as well.

Even though I was being somewhat sarcastic myself in my previous post, what I said turned out to be actually quite true. I suspect that in fact, you really are a pretty good guy. My apologies for suggesting otherwise.

Cheers and have a good day.

To be fair, the smells at Dodger Stadium and Toronado are remarkably similar

Obviously bit late on this thread, did they sell Toronado and if so, is the new owner keeping it open as the same bar?

This might be TMI, and my apologies if it is.

Most games the park just smelled of hotdogs, polish dogs and sauerkraut (once inside in your seat, there were places where it would also smell like weed). As a kid, I used to find the aroma almost intoxicating. This was in the 60's and 70's. It was the smell of major league baseball. However, Giant/Dodger games were different. The stick would always be filled to capacity and the level of intoxication in the bleachers was truly epic. Fist fights in the stands were frequent... to the point my father (an ardent Giant fan) stopped taking us kids to dodger games. Anyway, the combination of packed unwashed bodies, alcohol excess and predictable indigestion problems was truly an aroma the likes of which I've never seen elsewhere. I assume that's likely what @PatKorn is referring to. I'll leave it at that.

The Toronado smells like Lake Tahoe in comparison to those afternoons at the stick.

100% this. Don't forget Big Beers of Old Milwaukee. Also if it was a super high tide the toilets would overflow. Croix de Candlestick pins they would hand out if you stayed for the whole game. The crab mascot that would get pelted with debris from hometown fans. A fucking chain link fence in the outfield! And yeah the massive clouds of weed smoke. The good old days.
