We've all seen them: overpriced beers. A to Z way overpriced. Recently I saw what I consider a very mediocre beer priced outrageously high. I have heard this beer referred to as "Mexico's Embarrassment" and I would not argue too much with that. When I saw the price of it from a big chain discount site, I became inspired to create this thread. The price is outrageous. It just is. What beers have you found that are in your opinion overpriced? https://www.totalwine.com/beer/lage...jalisco/p/170089124?s=1608&igrules=true&tab=3
While it's nothing I would ever buy (along with most of its companion Mexican beers), that doesn't seem too "outrageously high" to me - cheaper than the same chain sells a case of Corona Extra and Modelo Especial. All 3 beers originated as Modelo-brewed and owned brands, though the two latter are now Constellation products in the US and Estrella Jalisco is imported by AB-InBev (owner in Mexico of Grupo Modelo) and their attempt to get a tiny bit of the Mexican beer market in the US.
"NATURAL & ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS". Hey, that sh*t doesn't just grow on trees, it costs big bucks! Well, the "NATURAL" ones do grow on trees, but that's before they undergo extensive "processing".
I have given up trying to track this. Have any tariffs kicked in that would affect the price of imported beer? Or are distributors/breweries just hiking up prices based on the confusion?
For the particular example shared by OP, looks like the price discrepancy for the TW price differs on the beer between MN and WI stores. WI store price - 20.99 (example) MN store price - 27.99 (example) Cross the cheddar curtain for your Estrella Jalisco in short, OP.
I just noticed the linked beer individually. Other beers, imports, have not shot up in price. It is however Cinco de Mayo.
So the owner of Estrella Jalisco has a kid in college? Or the beer showed up on some popular TV show and is suddenly trending? Who knows. If it’s priced more than you want to pay, don’t buy it.
Agreed. That was the first thing I checked when I saw the OP. How is it priced at this store in comparison to Corona and Modelo? I wouldn't buy it either, but the price doesn't seem all that outrageous when compared to Modelo and Corona pricing. Probably doesn't taste all that different either.
Double-digit prices for regular pints feels like my current threshold, but I also said that the $5 pour was too much at one time.
I still don't get the outrage. Prices for 12 packs in MN, WI in 2019 and in CA in '23. So not much different than the TW link. Seriously, I don't understand the OP. What am I missing?
At every other store in town these were individually priced (at $18-22 per can). I don't know whose idea it was to try to sell it in four-packs, but I can't imagine it went over well.
