Even though the beers from the breweries that you name (along with many other smaller breweries) brew styles that are mainstream to you, we look at the imports here as being 'craft' beers because they are historically unique styles and are well crafted.

I'm just trying to imagine how nice it is going into bars and restaurants and seeing the taps filled with German beers instead of IPAs and A-B products.

What @PapaGoose03 said! I can an IPA or stout just about anywhere. To get a good pilsner or helles, I have to know where to find it or go buy it at my local package store.

Sometimes local breweries will have those styles but they may not can these beers. For example, I like Fat Head’s and their ales, but they always have old styles on tap. Right now they have three weizens on tap plus several other German styles. Until/if I travel to Ayinger, I’ll be looking local for these beers on tap and buy the imported bottles. Cheers.

And because they are often very high priced like craft beer. A four-pack of Ayinger Maibock is $15.99 at my local supermarket. FWIW this beer is a 'pass' for me due to its high price. I am confident that @Bavarican is able to purchase this brand at a more economical price.

    Prost!

P.S. To 'add insult to injury' sometimes (most of the time for me) these high priced products are many months old at my local beer retailers. Shouldn't be the situation specifically for the Ayinger Maibock since it is a seasonal (unless there is last year's beers on the shelves :grimacing:).

I wish I saw Ayinger in four packs. I just see them sold as singles, usually about $5 a bottle.

It may be a little pricier than local beers, but man is it worth it! Ayinger Celebrator and fresh baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

I used to bring a six-pack of Guinness Extra and a package of Oreos to my friend's house to watch football on Sundays.

Ayinger is really a special kind of brewery, even for here. They home deliver to most of Southern Bavaria at no cost. You have to order 2-3 days in advance So a rack (20x500ml bottles) will run you between €17.50 for Helles and €19.90 For Maibock. It is kind of cool to see the Ayinger truck wind its way up the 300 year old mountian to my place. They load it right from the truck to my home bar through the basement window. It is quite a sight. I will have to get pictures next time.

    That is fortunate for you.

As you already read, Ayinger is priced extremely high in the US.

If you had to pay $15.99 for a four-pack of small bottles of Ayinger beer, would you buy it?

    Cheers!

Did you ever go to Stones Berlin brewery? If so, what did you or others think of that? I remember hearing that Stone was quite a bit more expensive than your every day German lagers, which same price very fairly.

Also, now that Brew Dog owns that place, have you checked that out? How does it compare to when Stone owned it?

Germany is not very big about the size of Montana. But I live about as far away from Berlin as you can get without leaving Germany. I live directly on the border with Austria. I have never been to Stones and have not been to Berlin in about 4 years.

You have to place images on a host site (e.g., Imgur) and then copy/paste them into the post.

    Cheers!
