Lazy day today, rain on and off. Needed some time to dial it down, work has been stressful. I am really enjoying these beers. Only have 7 left unless o find more on close out. Would never drop the $24 a pack they were originally. $5.99 works well for me. Nice vanilla barrel smell, taste is a nice barley wine with traces of cherry and mild orange finish.

I know nothing of this band except o heard them on the radio and liked them.

    Enjoy

Cracked my Oude Bruin 2025 from Barrique, purchased on Sunday. The date on the bottle shows this one as 4 months old, at 01/03/25. I got it fully knowing I HATE Oude Bruin, but if there's anyone that could make me enjoy the style, it's Barrique. I'm going to edit this post once I taste as a sort of coping mechanism.

Pour is very nice, a good dark brown with some aesthetic foam and lacing. Aroma is vile. Straight balsamic vinegar and sour horse blanket grossness. It really says something about a style when the aroma is more pungent and acidic than your actual bottle of quality balsamic. This thing tastes crazy. It's that some barnyard funk overtop of balsamic vinegar, with a dark, sharp sour and bitterness that I can only assume would be disgusting to the average drinker. This stuff is equal measures sour and bitter, with a wild, dark funk that reminds me of an open pasture. I mean, this is just an indescribable flavor. Even for someone who loves funk and actively seeks out the most weird Brett beers, this one is crazy. It's both dark and bright, and the deep malt flavors combine with the extreme funk and sourness to create an indescribable leather flavor. Feel is good, extremely carbonated and very bright, which enhances the sourness and adds to the complexities. I feel like the lower body and high carb help the weird flavors stay more pronounced, and at 8.5%, you can really drink this stuff. No off flavors or alcohol burn to offset what is an insane experience.

Overall, I think this is the weirdest beer I've ever had. It's like drinking vinegar and biting a leather boot at the same time, but if both of those objects were actively trying to harm you. I haven't decided if it's sour or savory yet, and I'm not even halfway through the bottle.

Other Oude Bruin fans, is this style supposed to be this batshit insane????

I can't edit my post again, but sincerely, what the fuck. I found the concept intriguing but the flavors, while recognizably great, were just so insane I couldn't finish the bottle. I do love wild ale and enjoyed a local grape-adjunct beer on tap Saturday, but this one was violent. A few months ago I asked for the weirdest bottle at Barrique and split a monster of a cellared wild ale with the bartenders, but this one was even more crazy. I still can't wrap my head around this beer and couldn't finish it.
