I am moving from Philly to Tucson this summer. I would love to learn where I can go to find my favorite craft brews in the Tucson area.
This gives a pretty good overview. https://tucsonfoodie.com/guides/breweries-in-tucson/ If you'll have any affiliation with the U of A, they are opening a new brewery on campus. They are working on recipes for beer and cider at Cork & Craft in the student union. For now, they have a pretty good mix of local beers, $5 pints during happy hour 4-6pm ($6 other times). The pub is open to the public, but since it's on campus, its a hassle to park unless you are already there.
What's going on with the beer scene in Tucson? I see Thunder Canyon is closed and another brewery just opened up in its place. Also Public Brewhouse is closed permanently. Any other closers I should know about? I was just there last September and don't recall seeing these places closed. I'll be in town for 3 nights of concerts at Hotel Congress in 3 weeks. Looking forward to some food and beer while I'm there for 3 nights. I still have T&B, Borderlands & Pueblo Vida & Dragoon. Is the hour & half drive to Tombstone worth it to visit Tombstone Brewing? Or should I stop at their Phoenix location on my way to Tucson?
Taprooms are the way to go. There are several breweries, but none are spectacular IMO. Pueblo vida is probably my number one. Dragoon is at second, followed by borderlands. There are a ton of excellent craft beer bars that host fantastic selections from around the country (and beyond). Most allow outside food, so the go-to move for me is Mexican takeout plus craft draft beer. Cheers!
Probably a bit late now for a response lol, but not worth the drive, as most places carry their beer now throughout AZ. You can find it even in some grocery stores. I recommend hitting a good craft beer bar in Tucson, as there are several and they likely have a variety of Tombstone cans or drafts. Posting in case someone else has this question down the line.
Slow Body recently opened in the last year. Best brewery in Tucson, IMO. Focus on lower ABV styles, lagers, pale ales, saisons.
Bumping this… coming to Tucson for another in&out trip this weekend. This is a long shot, anything in the vicinity of La Rosa. Staying about 10 minutes drive from there. looking for a place to eat and have a cold one or 2 before concert at La Rosa. Thx
