I love a good maibock. But even in a place as saturated with beer as the PNW, maibocks are kind of rare. Block 15 Alpine Ibex is out there in cans, and it's a good beer for scratching that itch. Rosenstadt released their Heller Bock recently, and it's good too. Recluse did Fire & Flowers again this year, and pFriem's Maibock is on tap at their new Milwaukie taproom. Wayfinder made a couple good maibocks (Clovenbock and Older Gods), but it's been 2 or 3 years since I've seen either of those. Chuckanut does a great one (of course), but I don't know if that gets packaged. I've also had decent versions from Seapine and Ecliptic. What else is out there? Edit: Don't say Rogue Dead Guy.
Heater Allen's occasional email just showed up in my inbox and they are canning Lenzbock this week. They call it a "heller/maibock".
That's the best news I've heard this week! They didn't brew Lenzbock last year because of their brewhouse expansion. It's one of my favorite seasonal beers, and I missed it.
elementary maibock question: are there essentially 2 sytles "dark" and "light" ? im not a huge fan of the dark maibocks, but I almost always love the lighter ones.
The Rosenstadt qualifies as a "darker than typical" maibock, IMO. I don't know if a classic Munich malt heavy malt bill can get to be truly dark (like a dunkelbock) , though.
Copper Mountain Maibock from Silver City is pretty orange: https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...drinking-now-2022.664086/page-82#post-7527839 As noted in the post, I didn't enjoy it as much as the paler Clovenbock and Lenzbock I had earlier that day. On the other hand, Enegren Maibock is definitely a step towards amber-orange, and it's awesome: https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...drinking-now-2023.670646/page-55#post-7746575
here would be a darker one: not my preference https://hofbrauhausimport.us/beer/maibock/ here is a lighter one: this is the kind i dig https://dingsbeerblog.com/style/maibock-helles-bock/
if you want to go far west and even farther north... Hoodoo in Fairbanks has a fabulous maibock every year....
I was in Belmont Station a week ago, and was offered one maibock - Ayinger's. I'm glad to hear that local options are available. Not that I have a complaint about the Ayinger.
Looks like Gigantic Brewing will be pouring their Royal Rosarian Maibock at the Lupulin Ecstasy Festival at Fort George this Saturday. That should make a nice change of pace between IPAs.
Gigantic Royal Rosarian Maibock was, indeed, a tasty diversion after a stately procession of fine IPAs. Good malt, a nice herbal hop bite, just a little hot. If I see bottles of this out in the wild I will certainly nab one. For science.
