From the Old Ox Brewery website:

To the Customers and Community that we love –

I’m writing to let you know that the time has come to say goodbye to Old Ox Brewery. It has been an incredible journey these past 11 years. We’ve treasured every moment. Well, with a few rare exceptions. Together, we’ve made wonderful friendships, supported our community, created some pretty darned cool experiences, and consumed an impressive quantity of delicious beer. Everything must end, though and this is our time. Our last day of operation will be Saturday, April 5th. We expect you to be there to help us celebrate.

Henceforth is set to open up in D.C. next month (April). The brewer comes with several WBC and GABF medals including Gold. I had the pleasure of trying his beers out when he was owner/brewer at Skipping Rock Beer in Staunton, Va that closed at the beginning of 2023 and they were great.

Going to be in DC this weekend staring at Cherry trees at the crack of dawn before the crowds arrive. Is the Brew Shop in Arlington my best bet for a shop to mule home some high quality brews (preferably stuff I can’t get in MD) They sell singles? How’s the parking situation (there or another recommended store)?

Yeah it’s a good shop. They do sell singles (of all the packs in store) just have to take the whole pack to the front and they will take one. They also have a single section. Street parking should not be a problem. Dominion beer and wine in Falls Church, not to far on Wilson Blvd from Arl Brew is also an option, limited singles, plenty of parking. Norm’s beer and wine in Vienna is also similar to Dominion beer and wine and is not to far up King st. from Dominion.

The Brew Shop is your best bet for sure. Dominion is probably another 15 minutes out of your way. Norm's maybe closer to 30. If you have the time, it may be worth it, but The Brew Shop always has some street parking around. Don't sleep on the crowlers either.

There are rumors about Bunnyman (Burke, Lorton, VA) and Mustang Sally (Chantilly, VA) but I haven't seen any articles but I do know that Bunnyman has been serving Mustang Sally beer. The Bunnyman shall inherit the earth.

    ---

Talked to a person claiming to be a prospective owner of a future Germantown, MD brewery in planning on my travels this weekend. We shall see what happens.

I'm not as familiar with the NOVA brewery happenings as much as I am Central VA but out of curiosity I checked ABC label approvals and the most recent one submitted for Bunnyman, which has not yet been released, called 'Space Cadet Triple IPA' receiving approval on 4/3/2025 is showing it was brewed and canned at Mustang Sally. All other approvals prior were brewed/packaged at Bunnyman.

My guess, and this is purely that since I'm not too familiar with Bunnyman, is that based on looking through their social posts Bunnyman is packaging / canning more beers so maybe they have contracted with Mustang Sally to help them out with that since they probably have more capacity to do so.

Bunnyman has done a lot of smart things. I don't like their beer but they're running their business flawlessly.

Here's an excerpt from The Beer Connoisseur Magazine about Cape May Brewing coming to Maryland:

Cape May Brewing Company is expanding into Maryland in April 2025, bringing its signature beers like Cape May IPA and Coastal Evacuation Double IPA to new craft beer enthusiasts through strategic partnerships with local distributors.

    From the Aslin email...

So, changing social norms and evolving government regs have opened the door for the natural world order of legal THC-spiked drinks. Good news right? And we've enjoyed sampling all the new social elixirs, "high-minded" teas, and psychedelic seltzers out there. There's so many of them! But at the end of the day, we're beer-folk first so we got to work on a brew that didn't have alcohol (because we'll always make plenty of those), but did have hemp-derived THC (because damn if it isn't fun and helpful).

Wax, as it shall now be forever called, is a non-alcoholic brewski, lovingly juiced with 2mg of THC and 2mg of CBD for a mellow sesh of elevated proportions. As with booze, there's a lotta ways to be. Wax is pretty light, and built for you to get as waxy as you wanna get. We're stoked with the results so far and are ready to share them with our crew, aka you. There's not a lot of Wax buildup yet (sorry had to) so we're resorting to super simple ordering setup: click the button below, pop in your email address, and in a couple weeks we'll open up pre-orders for the fresh Wax. There won't be much to go around at first so don't sleep on taking action.

Lambo Door from Grimm is delicious. Canned 4/7 and picked it up at Whole Foods on H St. Looks like Dominion got some in too, so I'm sure it's in NOVA.

RaR changing the recipe for Pulp, one of their regular offerings. Here’s the post:

    Oh my goodness!!!

We let our hop saturated brew squad dig into the Pulp recipe

This is straight fire. Not even going to lie. Run, don’t waste any time grabbing some of this. Check your canned date(s). Anything 5/5 or later is gas ⛽️ Cambridge and Annapolis taprooms have it, and distribution will be snagging some juice next week.

This will be the baseline moving forward. If you want a daily drinking hazy, this is it @chessieswharf

Hahaha yeah. Pulp was fine but I bet this new version will be a LOT better. The new brew team at RaR is killing it.

Tangentially related but when did Dominion's brunch go to shit?

I honestly wonder how much the rapid development in Dominion's immediate surroundings is affecting their operations. Every time I go there, I'm amazed by just how much constructions is going on, how many shiny new restaurants have sprung up, and how much the neighborhood is changing. I strongly suspect the increased demand for real estate and what I assume are corresponding rent hikes explain why Dominion has been charging ~$2 more per four pack than other mom-and-pop-type shops in the area, and I'd guess it's the reason they're seeming now opposed to splitting into singles as well. I haven't tried the food there, but the brunch could just be another casualty of this same effect.

if that's the pattern then I'd assume the obvious will happen in the next two years. Never been there but that's too bad.

edit: I wonder what that'll mean for Audacious as well

Yeah, at the other end of King, near Audacious (at the main intersection of King and Langston), a whole new apartment building with a Whole Foods has opened…
