Zittauer Bürgerbräu Schwarzbier. Very subtle beer. Not something I'd seek out again, but I do not regret buying.

Wow, that is incredible. Not just the fact that you get home delivery of Ayinger but that you get home delivery of beer direct from any brewery. That's not even legal in my state of Georgia. Mind blown.

And Those are the small bottles. This is one of the reasons that I live here. But at least you can get them there.

I can only find the Maibock in a smaller bottle than that usual Ayinger beers I buy (Urweisse, Bräuweisse).

Last month We stopped by the Ayinger tap and compared the fresh Winterbock to the Celebrator on the recomendation of the head waiter. We were very surprised that when fresh the Winter bock was better. We had the same thing happen at Weihenstephaner with the older Orignal Helles and the new Helles. Both breweries are trying to surpass thier classics

Maxl Helles Lager. My boy Olli agrees, the nose is fantastic. I see this again, it's being purchased. Really good beer.

I have not found that to necessarily be the case. Schneider Weisse Tap 7 holds up well and canned versions of Weihenstephaner do too. I've had some Ayinger Hefe that seems to have lost a few steps after a while. But I readily admit to never having tried any with less than a couple months time on them. It does not discourage me from buying German imports. In fact, it impresses me how well most hold up with the neglect they get over here. It's a testament to German Brewing to me.

I get both the bottled Weihenstephaner Original and canned Helles here in Georgia. I definitely prefer the canned Helles. It holds up better and the bottles come in that annoying 11.2 Oz bottle!

I just heard about this thread (I should pay more attention :stuck_out_tongue:) and thought I'd post this gem:
Ettaler Curator Dunkler Doppelbock • 9% ABV • no canning date

I grabbed this one at one of Houston's best independently-owned beer stores (D&Q on Richmond) thinking it was from an American craft brewery b/c of the colorful label, but obviously it's the real deal. Fantastic beer in one of my favorite styles ... loaded with fruitcake notes and a nice layer of earthiness in the flavor that keeps it from being too sweet. I will be buying more of this in the future.

I made it to another beer store today with no real gameplan and walked out with a pick-your-own 5-pack of German imports, so I'll be back sometime in the near future.

    Cheers!

That's funny. At first glance, I thought the label was an American brewery too! That sounds like a great Doppelbock and a big 9% too. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing what goodies you have in the mixed pack.

A few short years ago this was the closest brewery to my home. Two new breweries have been opened since then. It is set in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The monistery and the monks that make it are legendary. Before you die go to the Ettal monistary. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/12331/?view=ratings&ba=Bavarican#lists

Happy to find this spot. I've been finding loads of new-to-me German imports here in Houston, stuff I've either never seen before or have ignored, and I'll be curious posting stuff on this thread to see what others might have to say about any of them.

Also, now that I know about this thread, I'm not above sharing a never-ending stream of Bitburger and Konig Pilsner posts.:stuck_out_tongue:

    Cheers!
