Cheers started 1982. Bud Light 1982. Coors east coast 1986.

What would Sam serve Norm in 1982? Because, surely, Norm wouldn’t care.

    Bud Heavy, right?

It was Boston, had to be Narragansett.

Nope, unless it was out of Ft. Wayne, Indiana brewed at the Falstaff brewery there. The 1980s (and Paul Kalmanovitz) were not kind to the Narragansett brewery - the only thing coming out of there after closing in 1981 was some draught (in '83, supposedly) and lots of promises and rumors.

I took a trip to Maine in 1985 and drank a bit of Narragansett there... Maine only, or was it coming from Ft. Wayne?

Didn't look for it on the day trip to Boston because I was drinking this new (to me) Boston Lager stuff.

Yeah, all the former Cranston-brewed Falstaff owned brands still around in '85 were coming out of Ft. Wayne for east coast distribution, also including Ballantine India Pale Ale and Haffenreffer Private Stock Malt Liquor (not mentioned below). Not sure what happened to the other New England ales, Croft and Pickwick. (Man, do I miss them, too.)

Don't remember what the labels read - S&P(Falstaff) wasn't too good at updating labels. Not sure if it was laziness, economy (didn't want to print new ones and used the old ones until they ran out) or purposeful deception.

You and I lived similar lives.
We weren't allowed to crack our first beer until the ending of the theme song back in the day.

I toasted one to Norm as soon as I heard the sad news.

I really miss Private Stock Malt Liquor. " With that Imported taste".
That stuff really wasn't too bad, malt liquor wise.

Didn't even know his real name but Cheers ran every night in Germany. Loved that series and Norman was my favorite character. RIP to a true beer lover <3

I had heard the sad news last week. :slight_frown:
My wife and I saw him at the Oktoberfest at August Schell’s Brewery in Minnesota about 8 or 9 years ago. Also in the play, Twelve Angry Men.
    RiP George!

That would have been interesting. I got to see him in "Bleacher Bums" in Chicago back in the '90s. That was pretty fun.

I have no recollection of seeing the episode with the below scene.
