In my days of 9-5 work hrs I would frequent a little bar for happy hour that had Sam Adams on tap for $2.50 a pint. After your 3rd pint the bartender would bring you a little bowl of homemade Chex party mix. No peanuts, just cereal, Goldfish crackers, mini pretzels, and those slices of a mini dark bread stick. After that I always ordered a couple more rounds.
It’s a bit of a stretch, and that kind of out of the box thinking is “smok’n”! A few years back, a fellow BA turned me on to pairing IPA’s with cigars. So it’s not just robust beers that work well with a stogie.
I do cheese and crackers or popcorn. I want something sort of neutral tasting, because a couple of times I had chips or something else that screwed up my palate and really messed up how I tasted certain beers.
My son in law gave me as a Christmas gift last year a venison summer sausage from a deer he harvested while hunting. Slicing that up with some sliced cheese (anyt type) and crackers…heck I think that satisfied me as my dinner a few times actually.
Honey mustard and onion (reg, not the nibblers) FTW!!! That and smart food white cheddar popcorn are my fav snacks .
My go to is Planters lightly salted peanuts. If you’re into crunchy and salty, these are particularly good. Not Avocado flavored, just kettle cooked in avocado oil. They also make Olive oil kettle chips that are good as well. Everybody I’ve turned on to them really likes them.
Unique Splits-- my new favorite pretzels since we can't get the Utz old fahsioned ones on the West coast--
Yes, when Cost o gets these in I usually grab 2 bags. Good choice. I do all of my cooking with avocado or olive oil.
If I'm out somewhere, it's tough to beat something potato-based. French fries, tater tots, etc. hopefully smothered in some kind of spicy sauce and/or cheese. If I'm just hanging out at home, I'm a sucker for Fritos.
An oldie but a goodie of mine was Corn Nuts! Not really exactly what they were made of, but they were tasty, with a big Crunch! Went great with any American Lager. ' ' https://www.youtube.com/shorts/skhMlB6CBMk
