I think it's totally fine to include beers that you've tried but haven't reviewed.

While I was in Colorado I picked up several new to me beers. But I also missed Buckley day at Transient. So Garth went and picked up some of their barrel aged beers.
This was one that we shared at his place after kayaking today.

I can't speak for the founding fathers of New Beer Sunday, but my gut tells me it was beers you've never had before. I also think having cut my BA.com teeth on NBS, those founding fathers weren't A-holes, so they might scoff about someone bringing a beer to NBS that technically had been tried before, but they wouldn't ban anyone or publicly berate them.

New Beer Weekend having descended from New Beer Sunday, I think the same remains: Theoretically it's about a totally new, never tried before beer, but if you've never actually reviewed Heinekein and now are finally getting around to it and want to post that on NBW ... well ... OK, cool. Who's going to stop you? And it's still a New Beer Review Weekend, so why not let's all be cool and look the other way?

That's a lot of $0.02, but it's still just worth 2 American pennies.

Also, there are plenty of people that don't feel right doing a review based on one/their initial tasting

Black Howler Beer Co. Old Mill Oatmeal Stout, 5.6% ABV; 3.99 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut with one finger of beige head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Roasty & cocoa notes once warmed up

T: Pretty roasty, dryness, woody hops & Baker's Chocolate up front. Roasty, dry with cocoa & Baker's Chocolate as this beer warms up, more woody hops. Finishes dry, toasty, with cocoa & some char notes

    MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

Good take on the style, carbonation seems to be a bugaboo for these guy's beers in crowlers though

    Me included

I actually hate reviewing a beer at first blush for several reasons, but I also respect the rule of first impressions. Plus, I'm growing very beer lazy in my old age ... it's more work to drink 2 or 3 beers instead of just one. :joy:

Tried to put in my review but it timed out, rather annoying.
In short, tasty but too sweet with the maple syrup.

Poured from a 250ml can; pour appears brown, beer exudes a garnet color in the glass; clear; lively carbonation; thick, khaki head, long-lasting, creamy texture on top; thick flecks of foam stick to the glass. Huge aroma; rich malt sweetness; toffee and caramel tones; candi sugar; dried holiday fruits. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; rich malt sweetness; dried cherries; boozy; hazelnuts. Heavy body; thick and sticky; boozy warmth.

This is one potent yet tasty beer. Very sweet, very boozy, yet quite alluring.

Black Howler Beer Co. Turpentine Creek Belgian Triple, 9.5% ABV; 4.02 overall

Pours a very effervescent gold with a pinky of cream-colored head. Average-ish head retention & pretty good lacing

S: Apple skins, pears, some phenolic notes, perfumuy hops once warmed up

T: Pears, a little dryness & juicy fruit & grassyness up front, a touch of honey malt too. Honey malt, a little pineapple, pears & grassy notes once warmed up, faint white pepper, green banana & yeasty notes too. finishes with green banana, green melons, phenols, some lemon notes & grassyness

    MF: Medium, very restrained carbonation

True to the style, the ABV is well hidden

One more as the sun sets on the long weekend. "Capt'n Surf" - a collaboration between Coronado and Humble Sea - a 7.0% West Coast Hazy IPA they say - cheers!

    4/5 rDev -1.5%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Packaged April 29, enjoyed on May 26th - poured from a pint can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Oats and Pils malt. Dry hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Sabro.

Opaque peach/amber body with a small stand of off-white soft peaks upstairs. Fine soapy lacing; decent retention.

Tangerine, lemon-lime, tropical, and floral aroma.

Flavor follows the nose but is more subdued. Hints of white tea, vanilla wafers, coconut, and bubble gum, leading into a medium-dry, lightly bitter, slightly dank finish. Summery and balanced.

Creamy, medium-bodied, almost chewy. Slightly warming yet refreshing.

Reminds me a bit of some of Modern Times' early hazy beers with their more forward bitterness - though this is more subdued.

Hello all, I’m going to try this again.
I mentioned Patriot Liquors in Colorado Springs because it was the closest to where I was staying, and I got to talking to the manager who remembered me from the last couple of trips and enjoyed showing me the new beers he was impressed with.
One of which was, according to him, his favorite - I take that as “current favorite” but I could be wrong. Anyway, I wasn’t going to buy a 4 pack so he did and gave me one-
    [IMG]
A bourbon barrel aged Irish red ale. I’ve not had good luck with their BBA stouts so let’s see how this goes.
The pour is pretty; lovely amber color with a tall ivory color head that left rings of lacing.
The taste is all malt with surprising depth of flavor; not sure if I could have guessed it was BBA from the flavor, it’s not noticeable as bourbon or oak, but adds layers of flavor to a normally mundane beer.
The feel is lightly viscous, it fits the taste well.
OA, it’s better than I expected, a barrel aged beer that comes in under 9% is something that you could drink a couple of if you like.
    Providing you are home already.
Cheers all, and thanks to @Beersnake for hosting this weekend!

Tonewood Brewing - Barrington - Levitation Session
My second Tonewood beer of the day after having their Revolution Porter (coffee porter) this afternoon. That was not a new beer for me, this one is. This is an American Pale Ale and a collab with South Philly brewery ARS. It's really tasty - very citrusy, clean, juicy, pithy, and balanced. Super drinkable and very enjoyable!

    Notes:
P cloudy flat light org, 2f foamy white head w/ a fairly quick recession
N med nose of stone fruit, milk sugar, peach pit, biscuit, really nice
T stone fruit, peach, milk sugar sweetness, a bit of banana and trop character, biscuity malt supports, a bit of peach tanginess in the finish, quite tasty
Mf med to med full, med high carb, a bit coating in the finish
O an excellent hazy, exceeded my expectations

    Until next weekend, NBWers! :beers:

New Beer (Late Night) Monday edition.
A decent finish for the weekend.
    Kiwi Fingers
    [IMG]

    16oz can.
Bright, straw to gold in color with a vibrant 2+ fingers cap. White, fluffy, and hangs around for a bit. Good retention with layered soapy lacing.
Nose pops with grapefruit and lime zest followed by a dry berry and wine note that then heads towards some flowery tropical notes that are hard to nail down.
Flavor follows the nose in a slightly subdued manner. The lime and dry wine notes take turns showing their stuff. Some grass, mango, and diluted lemon drops come in as well.
Mouthfeel is carbonated well but a tad light in the mouth.

I think that is fine. Sometimes we had a beer in a situation where we can only legitimately remember a general impression. If you are leaning in on it now and giving a beer it's due, by way of review, I say go for it.
