I'll echo others comments and say....KBS as a golden ale? If that's true, that would definitely be a pass for me.

It seems like Founders has a plethora of (semi-retired?) beers that would be well received if they'd release them again, like they do with CBS. As popular as that one is, it doesn't disappear from store shelves overnight, but it does sell. The high pricing is becoming a little bit more acceptable, but probably still makes some people think twice and then decline.

Recent label approval on DKML so it does seem it will likely be released later this year.

This is on their website now…

Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, we thought we would class it up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one’s a pry-off, not a twist-off.

This is the first time we’ve released DKML, though our Brewmaster, Jeremy, has taken the recipe through multiple trial batches over several years. It marks the fourth release in our Barrel-Aged Series, preceded by Frootwood, KBS and Doom.

DKML will be available in 4-packs of 12oz bottles and 750mL bottles beginning in our taproom on July 1 and the remainder of our distribution footprint – which now includes 46 states – shortly thereafter. It will have a SRP of $11.99/750mL bottle and $14.99/4-pack 12oz bottles.”

They released Doom again? I haven't seen it anywhere.

I think they literally are just emphasizing this is their 4th release EVER in the series (behind KBS, Frootwood, & Doom) (not counting the dozens of KBS variants), so even though they haven’t released Doom in years (almost a decade?) they’re still recognizing it as a prior release in their Barrel Series. They’ve chosen to reference a beer they haven’t made in many years, I guess to say how exclusive DKML is.

The original DKML announcement posted above was dated 2017 in the link and that was also the year Doom came out as the third beer in the Barrel Series. So I think this is just a case of old info and doubt either beer is coming out this year.

I'll wager a 'like' that DKML gets released this year. And in case not...<sets thread reminder to 01 Jan 2026> :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I saw it on draft last Saturday night at dinner! I was shocked and figured it must be old but didn't care and ordered it and it was great.

The restaurant was the Cellar at Duckworth's in Charlotte, NC, and their online taplist shows it as still being available.

That's one helluva beer list they have there! I've got to go to Charlotte someday soon and spend a week drinking myself silly.

Man, not even 10 years ago finding a singular bottle of regular KBS was a major score. Now, I find it sitting on ever shelf, and Founders produces it nearly year round with multiple variants per year.

I’ve not had it in a while, but if I recall it was still quite solid for the price. Based on other previously, sounds like the variants can be hit/miss.

I would be excited for a DKML return and CBS as well!

I am a little surprised they are not throwing hazelnut or blueberries into DKML.

Maybe you can do this on your own by adding whole blueberries to the glass prior to the pour?

Initial impression of the blonde (sorry "golden ale") KBS = good. Light roast coffee on the nose, very fudgey taste. Definitely on the sweeter side - they do have lactose in there. The barrel flavors are subtle but are there.

Its more like a coffee flavored cream ale. Drinks WELL below the ABV. Hard to believe it is 11%.

I spotted a new 4 pack of KBS Cherry Chocolate at Jacks in the U-P. I am pretty sure that's the next one here after the Iced Latte. I haven't been able to find it yet locally in Wisconsin
