    Industrial arts any beer lager
    ....hazy pale gold appearance
...medium carbonation with close to the same for the body
...aroma is grain, cereal, malt, earthy and floral honey
...taste has a very mild sweetness that builds a bit. Theres some type of tropical fruit followed by grain and cereal.
...for some reason I wasn't expecting much but its really good[IMG]

Alpine Legacy IPA from Wander Brewing in Bellingham, Wash.

Moderate carbonation and a thickish mouthfeel. Aromas of peach and lemon. Fruity, rich, and rather sweet. Definitely a juicer. Flavor is canned peaches with a dark scratchy hop finish. I would even say they are the uncommon canned cling or Alberta peaches, a distinct taste. This is a different sort of hoppy brew, but what do they put in it to make it so sweet? An intriguing beverage but i would not reach for one if I wanted a beer.

Tonight I am sharing a beer from the Imperial Stout and Barleywine BIF#2. This is from @muchloveforhops3 THANKYOU!!
This beer is ALesong Brewing out of Eugene Oregon and is their Pepper mint Rhino Suit Imperial Stout. An 11% abv brew that features peppermint extract and cocoa nibs in the stout.

    Onto my review:
I am sampling a 22 oz bottle at cellar temperature and poured into a snifter. The beer is a 2024 vintage and is part of a trade that I received recently.
The beer pours a dark coffee brown with a fluffy beige head of 1.5 cm. This foam fades fairly quickly to a thin edging around my glass. Not really much lacing when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
The aroma is some chocolate notes and peppermint notes that dominate. Not quite toothpaste but somewhere beyond chewing gum.
NO hop character and not boozy either. Smells about as exactly as I would expected from label.
First sip reveals a medium to lighter body, especially light for a bigger ABV stout. Carbonation is fine, gentle and spacious, bubbles feel a little cask like.
Flavor is some mild roasted malt and chocolate, not very sweet though, Next some solid peppermint comes through, again, not toothpaste or candy cane, but definitely some lingering mint notes. Never any hops on the flavor profile and the ABV doesnt provide peppery spice or warming notes.
The beer is pretty easy to drink and the flavor is okay , but doesnt really do it for me. Im glad to have tried this one but dont think I would drink this one again.

Looks like some good beers thus far...I don't think I'll be having any new beers today mainly cause I'm trying to time up an empty beer fridge with Tonewood's 9th Anniversary next weekend so I can do a proper haul and try a new beer or two

With that being said I thought of a question for today, motivated by @Beersnake 's recent nice thread openers.

I was tasked with buying beer for a wine lover, who likes dark beer more than lighter beer. Naturally I made this more complicated than it had to be but finally settled on a four pack of Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, dark with a unique feel from those stone open square fermenters. I asked Mrs Phisher if there was any feedback on the beer she said her friend texted her "This may be my new favorite beer."

So here is a question I pose to all you new beer sippers on this Sunday...

Have you ever introduced someone to a new beer that they ended up loving, or really enjoying? Especially if said person is a non-beer person...and is there a backstory or reason you chose the beer that you did?

Cheers everyone, as I work on clearing a beer or two today from my fridge I will happily read about all that you are drinking and sharing. Happy New Beer Sunday!

Yesterday I attended the 5th Annual Logjammin’ Lager Festival in Philly. Once again, I had a great time (too much fun? :flushed:). I ran into Joe Connolly again from Jack’s Abby and had a quick chat and I got to meet for the first time a number of other brewers/owners and enjoyed having beer and brewing discussions. I won’t go through the entire list but will provide a ‘shout-out’ to Hagan Dost of Dovetail, Daniel Endicott of Forest & Main (he even offered to provide me with some of his yeast from the brewery), Jeremy Myers of Trauger,…

In this post I will discuss the beers of Good Word Brewing from Duluth, GA. I was on the lookout for this brewery based upon the various posts that @ATL6245 has made in BA threads. The owner, Todd DiMatteo, was there manning the serving station. He is a great guy and we had a nice, albeit short, chat.

Todd brought a large assortment of canned beers:

I opted to go for the Pilsner that he served via a gravity pour.

It was quite tasty, a bit on the sweet-ish side. I enjoyed drinking it.

On the topic of “enjoyed drinking it”, this year’s event was phenomenal in that there was not a single beer that I didn’t think was good. I did dump some beers but that was solely to maintain a certain (feeble?) level of sobriety.

I will be back later today to discuss some other beers from this year’s event: Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal winners (and maybe an Honorable Mention?).

    Cheers!

Feeder from Royal City Brewing Co.

Poured a 473ml can into a pilsner glass. A two finger bubbly white head on a clear gold. The head soon diminishes to a layer. Some patchy lacing.

Herbal hop and some malts in the nose. The taste follows the nose. Bread and cracker malts. a good balance between the hop and malt. A very subdued hop finish.

Medium body and medium/light carbonation. Overall a solid European Export Lager.

Before my stumblings onto this thread Jack but I know it brings back memories for many :beers:

Looking forward to the rest of your recap, out of the pictured beers above I think the American Lager would've sucked me in. You know my affinity for that style, neat to see that they make one as well, do you know if it was an adjunct lager, or just American due to hops used?

Todd recommended the Pilsner to me so I went with his recommendation.

I am.a fan of the Classic American Pilsner style since those beers are generously hopped in all three phases: bittering, flavor and aroma.

    Cheers!

Good Sunday morning, New Beer Samplers and commentators. My wife has the rental car so I’m enjoying some down time before doing fun stuff later. It’s the first sunny morning since we arrived in Missouri on Wednesday. Logboat Brewing Co., in Columbia, is celebrating its anniversary this weekend and one of the releases is Rocket Shark Sultan of Alorillo. It’s the latest in a series of “Rocket Shark” DIPAs. It’s hopped with Sultana, Alora, and Amarillo hops.

It pours cloudy and bright orange in color with a thin, ecru head and modest lacing (3.75). A fragrant nose featuring lemon, grapefruit, peach, and a whiff of pine (4.0). The taste is big, bold, and fruity - balancing the tartness of lemon, grapefruit, and unripe peach against the sweetness of pineapple and ripe honeydew. The Vienna malt base adds additional sweetness. What really makes it different is the unique taste of zuzu fruit from the Alora hops. There is also a dose of pine sap with sharp hop bitterness (4.25). A good, full mouth feel with lively carbonation, and the 7.6% ABV gives it a pop (4.25). Overall, this is a solid, fun to drink, DIPA (4.0). Combined rating: 4.11.

I hope to pop in again later. Cheers!

Bardstown BCBS. Pours without any noticeable head retention. Viscosity appears lower and mouthfeel plays out around medium body. Wish it was a bit thicker. With that said, flavor is fantastic. Loads of cherry wood and barrel. Light barrel rye spice. Dark fruits, chocolate, and a little vanilla. One of the better BCBS variations. 94/100

As promised, I am back to discuss more beers from the 5th annual Logjammin’ Lager beer festival in Philly.

    Going for the Gold!

There were two ‘top’ beers and since I really couldn’t separate the two, I will be awarding two Gold Medals for this year’s event

    Lesser Known (Winston-Salem, NC)

I have never had a beer from Lesser Known and if you asked me yesterday about this brewery I would have responded: never heard of them. It was not until today that a ‘lightbulb’ went off that in a past thread I discussed this brewery with @dbrauneis where he offered:

“Lesser Known is definitely top notch - have really enjoyed it the couple of times I have visited and the beers were fantastic. They do growler fills (but not for all beers) and on-premise but I have not seen them have any bottles available.”

The Pilsner they brought to the festival is indeed “top notch” and worthy of being a co-winner of the Gold Medal.

Will Loring (co-owner and brewer) also took the time to construct a detailed recipe ‘sheet’ (shown in the below photo) for this beer. We chatted for quite some time about his decision to use sauergut to acidify the mash of this beer. @ATL6245.

The only tasting notes I will share is this Pilsner was perfectly balanced for my palate and overall an excellent beer!

A Collaborative brew: Creature Comforts and Schilling

I have limited experience in drinking Creature Comforts beer (they are located in Athens, GA). A few months ago, my wife and I were returning from Florida (visiting friends) and made a stop in Athens, GA on the way home. My first time drinking Creature Comforts Tropicália IPA at the Blind Pig Tavern; I discussed this beer in a NBW thread:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-weekend-236.679750/#post-8119385

This beer, Theodor Northern German Pilsner, was brewed at the Creature Comforts Brewery in Athens, GA with participation of Schilling brewer(s) who traveled down to brew this beer.

As with the Lesser Known beer it was perfectly balanced for my palate and overall an excellent beer!

Back to discuss more beers from the 5th annual Logjammin’ Lager beer festival in Philly.

    Silver Medal

Counterweight brought two beers to this festival which were both very good! I enjoyed their Czech Dark Lager (12° Tmavé) a little bit more so I awarded it the Silver Medal. A very well balanced Czech Dark Lager with a bit of chocolate (baker’s chocolate) and a hint of toasty.

My wife took a sip of my pour and said “Yum” and went on to state “Almost as good as Dark Angel” which is the brand name she gave my homebrewed Czech Dark Lager. My homebrewed version has a bit more of a luscious mouthfeel but this beer from Counterweight is no slouch. My wife went back for her own pour later in the day.

    Bronze Medal

Human Robot was serving a number of beers but the one that ‘caught my eye’ was their Grungeist Pils. This beer features Grungeist hops which is not something I see very often. In a past NBW thread I discussed Von Trapp Keller Pils which featured Grungeist hops and I was a fan of that beer:

    “Overall:

This beer is very, very good. There is a lot going on here! First you experience the combination of citrus, herbal and floral on the nose but as you taste the beer there is ‘change’ where fruitiness dominates but yet you still can pick of the flavors of the aroma. All of these aspects work very well together and it can be argued the sum is greater than the parts.”

Well, the Human Robot Grungeist Pils was also very, very good and worthy of a medal.

This beer was served via gravity pour from a pitch lined barrel. I spoke to one of the Human Robot brewers about the barrel aspect of the beer. He informed me that the pitch within the barrel was still in good shape and they have plans to reline the barrel with new pitch in a year (or so) with pitch they have developed themselves at the brewery (these are inventive guys!). I asked if it was a cask conditioned beer and he replied that they added some newly fermenting beer to provide carbonation; this process is referred to as krausening.

6/8/25 - (Bottle - Home) (Chicago, IL) Bottle Notes:
Purchased May 22, 2025 at Beer on the Wall at store temperature for $2.84 including tax, refrigerated at home until opening this afternoon. 12 oz bottled May 2, 2025, 5.8% ABV Saison. Chart a course through liquid horizons with this refreshing Saison, your easy drinking companion crafted for whatever adventure awaits. Brewed and bottled by Three Floyds Brewing LLC, Munster, Indiana.

Appearance: Poured entire bottle into a large tulip glass, yielding a golden tan crystal clear base, medium plus sustained carbonation throughout, a creamy bubbly head that leaves without a trace beyond a creamy rim above the base, and a razor thin cover above most of the circumference. Very nice! 4.25

Aroma: Banana, clove, citrus, lemon. Minimal funk, medium strength, slightly higher enjoyment.. 3.75

Taste: Stronger more intense flavor than the aroma yields, clove and citrus carrying heavy freight, with traces of banana and lemon. Could have used some funk. 3.5

Mouthfeel: Sustained prickly carbonation is the first sensation. Drinks light and easy, dry and carbonation is the primary contributor to the light watery body. Sweet, the citrus and clove sustained from start to finish. 3.25

Overall: The heavy carbonation was personally distracting, combined with the lack of funk made this a meh one time saison for me., though based on my prior experiences would give them another Saison shot down the road. Enjoying what I can, and pairing with fish. 3.25

Didn't expect two mediocre attempts from this brewery this weekend, but here I am. Hope to try a few in the wild new beer attempts over the next few weeks before my Vegas trip. Hope everyone has a great a Summer day as we are having here, regardless of what is in your glass.
