Tonight Im tapping into my Barreled Souls stash of bottles and this is their famous Stay Puft Imperial Stout. Peanut Butter and Blueberry Jam variant. 11.4% ABV.

    ONto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle of this beer. Poured into a stemless snifter. Picked up at the brewery , beer was bottled on my birthday (May 15) 2023.
the beer pours a dark coffee brown color with no light passing through the glass. A dense spongey tan head of 3 cm foams up and fades to a dense strong edge layer.
Aroma on the beer is sweet chocolate and vanilla with some fruity blueberry notes, but not really any peanut notes to speak of. Certainly no hop character on this beer either.
First sip reveals a medium body and very smooth texture with fine gentle rolling carbonation.
FLavor is similar to the nose, still not getting peanuts or peanut butter, some sweet chocolate, vanilla and light blueberry notes. Never any hint of the ABV nor any hop character. The beer is very drinkable and has a nicely mixed flavor profile. Blueberry lingers after each sip.
A nice imperial stout that I am enjoying, but a little disappointed for no peanut hits, maybe they were there and have faded, but I wish they were still here.

    One more for the weekend!

It was a most enjoyable afternoon watching the Timbers with a bunch of the usual suspects in Section 207. The journey home on public transit, however, was rather challenging thanks to a derailed light-rail train near the stadium. Fortunately, it didn't look like there were any injuries, but it did create a bit of a snarl in the transit system.

When my train finally got me to the Beaverton area, I stopped at John's Marketplace to pick up some burgers to take home. (Because who wants to cook when it's almost 100 degrees outside and the air is moister than a Duncan Hines cake? Not me. And not Mrs. vurt either.)

I decided to have a beer while waiting for the burgers, and this is the beer I enjoyed:

The beer is a warm yellow-gold leaning ever so slightly towards amber. The clean white head quickly shrinks to a collar and an island. (Or perhaps more of an airstrip, as you can see in the photo.) The nose is grainy and sweet, with mild yeasty and grassy notes. The flavor is slightly less sweet than promised by the nose. Malt and cereal grains dominate. The malt flavor is a little husky, like the flavor you get in the back of your throat after standing near the grain mill at a homebrew shop. Delicate honey and lemon flavors emerge in the finish. Hop character is earthy and slightly grassy. The body is on the lighter side of medium, with healthy carbonation. Overall, this is another reliably good beer from pFriem, although the sweetness was heavier than I prefer.

12oz bottle served in a snulip. Don't see a date on the bottle. Got it from @DIM in Stout/Barleywine BIF #2.

Pours black with a tiny ring of head. Smell is lots of coffee, maybe a little vanilla and/or marshmallow. Hint of black licorice.

Taste is coffee, lots of coffee, and dark, bitter chocolate. Let's repeat coffee a couple times. Some sweetness, not very specific, might just be sugar with a hint of lactose.

Mouthfeel is thick, smooth, velvet. Overall, nice beer.
