Sounds like an excellent deal! I haven't been to Amberg in over a decade, so it may be worth a visit and to join the club on my next visit to Germany. A crate full of beer will fit into my baggage allowance quite nicely...
We call these Mug Clubs here, and the cost is usually $50+ and we don't get some of those benefits. But it's nice to feel special when drinking at the brewery with a special mug.
We have pubs and micros with similar clubs around here -- have had for many years. But I know Hofbräu München has some sort of Krug Klub. I always admired the Krug Cages at the Haus and wanted to be invited to be a part of the "in" group.
