IPA Appreciation Thread (2025)

The first of my beers today will be Cowbell Brewing Co.'s (from Blyth, Ontario) 8% Double Exposure Double IPA, my ninth from them (and third for this year). With Sundae the cat...

This was a great rice IPA I had the other day (with Sundae the cat). Omnipollos Tokyo 5.4%. It was gifted to me, in a surprise care package, by Chris Goddard from Toronto's The Bodega and The Craft Brand Co....Funny story about it: Every other gift I've ever received from a brewery, the brewery has email notified me first: This one came completely without warning or explanation. My lady Pamela asked me if I have a girlfriend. I was thinking to myself, well, sending me a box of beer would certainly be a fantastic idea for anyone interested in me, but now's not the time to give a somewhat cheeky response. So, I simply said, yes, you, silly. Then we opened it up, with this wonderful note from Chris, and a professional edition beer diary, so I can take my favourite hobby even further!...

Roll Up Our Sleeves, NE IPA, 6.8%
Checkerspot Brewing Company

This past weekend, I had this really good one.
I noticed UnTapped had it listed with over 100 ratings (4.0 average score).
Surprisingly it wasn’t even on our radar here at BA,
I added it though.

A fruity, soft, smooth, and satisfying IPA with a bright finish. I gave it a 4.1 and will definitely be looking to buy some more.

 

I found this in a recent beer haul from my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor (got caught in a torrential downpour about three blocks away, but I was well-prepared and ended up none the worse for wear, and beer is ALWAYS worth it). It's from one of my fave breweries, Ottawa's Dominion City, so I was viciously optimistic. And it didn't disappoint me, yesterday, when I got around to it. With Sundae, the cat...the 6.5% Sunsplit IPA...

Two new IPA's to investigate today, when I get home from working and physio in nearby Windsor; one pictured with Gracie, and then both pictured with a 1959 photo postcard of acclaimed Canadian classical pianist Glenn Gould (a nod to my classically-trained violinist muse, Pamela), along with some horror movies/thrillers that I took out from the library (it's exactly halfway between my place and Pamela's), that hopefully we'll investigate over the next few days. We dedicate each Sunday to a particular great director: Alfred Hitchcock was our first; Ridley Scott was to be last Sunday, but we delayed it to this Sunday, as we were in the mood for British murder mysteries at the time instead. Brian De Palma (the Blow Out, pictured) and John Carpenter are just around the corner...



But, I digress! The first beer is my first from Bedford, England's Eagle Brewery, their 5% Eagle IPA; the second, is my second from Elora, Ontario's Elora Brewing Co., their 6.5% West Coast IPA...

Drekker Goose Suit NEIPA, 6.6% ABV. Pours hazy golden with a three-finger off-white head that left lots of lacing. Aroma is pineapple and strawberry. Taste is strawberry, pineapple, and melon, equally sweet and bitter. Somehow juicy with a dry finish, overall excellent.

At first glance I thought it was called Goose Shit.

 

A wonderful IPA I've enjoyed this afternoon was my tenth beer from Hamilton's Fairweather Brewing Company, their 6.2% High Grade IPA. With Sundae the cat...



...and poured, with a variety of Ridley Scott's films...
