It has been quite some time since I have started this thread.

    You regulars know the deal.

For others this is the thread where we discuss beers that are new to us. Please tell us what you think of your new beer. And any other aspects you want to discuss with us is most welcome.

    Going Yard!

For those of you who are baseball fans I suspect you are thinking baseball but it is a reference to the Craft Beer Bar/Restaurant chain: Yard House.

I went to a matinee showing of the movie F1 (in IMAX no less) with a bunch of buddies and after the movie one of my smart friends came up with an idea to get some beers at a place nearby. A suggestion was made for going to the local Yard House and since there is beer there that was A-OK with me.

For any of you familiar with the Yard House chain they have a ‘gazillion’ beers available on tap. At the location we went to there was 130 beers on tap. This could create a challenging situation for many folks (including my buddies) but the first beer selection was an easy one for me. I read in a BA thread that Yard House has a ‘house Helles’ beer which is made by the German brewery Schneider Weisse. That brewery is renowned for their wheat (weisse) beers but I figured: what the hell(es) here!

Below is how this beer is detailed in the Yard House beer menu:

    House Give 'Em Helles

    Helles Lager

    ABV 4.9%

    Germany

Give ‘Em Helles is the latest Brewer Collab Series launch between Yard House and Schneider Weisse. A super clean and crisp lager with nutty notes of grain and a touch of maltiness. Hallertau hops are added, lending their mellow bitterness and earthy-floral aromas, which adds another dimension of complexity to this light brew.”

Served in a Yard House pint beer glass:

    Appearance:

Light golden colored with a white head which dissipated fairly quickly.

    Aroma:

The aroma is mostly bready Pilsner malt.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with bready Pilsner Malt flavor and any hop flavors are in the background. There is a low bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Light - medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall:

I enjoyed drinking this beer, it is very good. It is malt forward with the quality that German’s describe as süffig (has great drinkability).

As much as I enjoyed the drinkability of this beer for my second beer, I just had to give in to a different beer brand that was ‘calling me’, a glass of Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock.

These two beers made for a tasty twofer!! :beers:

P.S. For those folks who like action movies I recommend the F1 movie (especially in the IMAX format).

Social Project Brewing Land of my Affliction Double Hazy IPA with Strata, Alora,& Citra Hops, 8.5% ABV; 4.09 overall

Pours a hazed gold with 2 fingers of ivory colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

S: Melons, some tropical fruit, peach notes once warm

T: Follows the nose, a little citrus, a touch of Kiwi Fruit & dryness up front. Passion fruit, Kiwi Fruit, a little tangerine & grassyness as this beer warms up. Finishes with white grape, hints of pink grapefruit, lime & green melon

MF: Medium body, fairly lively carbonation, nice balance

Really easy to drink, not top tier for these guys, but pretty darn good

7/11/25 - (DA’s Home) (Las Vegas, Nevada) Can Notes:
Purchased a four pack of 16 oz cans refrigerated for $13.00 with tax on June 26, 2025 at Khoury’s, refrigerated until opening this evening. Edel-Pils, German Style Pilsner. 4.8% ABV, 35 IBU Lager. Canned 5/1/25 @ 11:30 AM. 40-45 F serving temperature, Pilsner Glassware, pairs well with Bratwurst, Spicy Chicken, White Cheddar. Brewed & Canned by Enegren Brewing Company, Moorpark, California.

Edel-Pils celebrates the glory of German Noble hops against a background of the finest Pilsner malt. Refreshingly classic, Edelman-Pils combines a lighter body with the bitterness and aroma of Saaz and Tettnanger Hops. Ein prosit auf die tradition.

    Appearance:
Poured close to half the 16 oz can into a flute glass, yielding generous creamy soapy lacing over a clear bright straw tan base. Light sustained carbonation, head finally settles after a few minutes to yield a bubbly thick cover over the base. 4.25

    Aroma:
Nice bread cracker base, salt and pepper, lemongrass, mineral water. All blends well, full strength and enjoyment. Very nice. 4.5

    Taste:
Consistent with the above, bread, salt and pepper and lemongrass. Traditional German Pilsner flavors done well, lighter in intensity than the aroma yields. 3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Negligible faint carbonation though sustained visually. Drinks below the 4.8% ABV, very light and easy. Lightly dry, balanced. Nice sustained bread pepper flavors start through finish. 4.0

    Overall:
This is a light and easy German Pilsner packed with flavor expected from this style. This is very similar to their God Bless America beer. Glad I picked up a four pack to enjoy and share. 4.0

It's a shame IMGUR isn't letting me access the site, so you just get my words. This beer is from @RochefortChris

Wise Man Brewing Living Double Life Doppelbock ( (Winston-Salem, NC ) , 8.5% ABV; 4.17 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut with a pinky of fast falling sandy colored head. Traces of head retention & lacing

S: Brown bread, a little booziness, caramel & leafy hops

T: Caramel forward, woody hops, a touch of gingerbread & little booze bite up front. Woody & leafy hops, brown bread & caramel this beer warms up.

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, a little warming. A little more carbonation would've helped

In my Doppel wheelhouse for the most part, has enough heft to keep from getting too carried away, or least that's what I'll say since I only have this pint

This will be my new beers for the weekend I believe. Heading out on Vaca!

Box Office Gold from California brewer HenHouse. They call it "Industrial" Corn Lager with Huell Melon Hops.

This could be called uncomplicated, but that doesn't mean it's pleasing. It starts off OK with some mild grainy taste but the finish is more like grape skins than hops. Green taste with a distinct astringency. Somewhat sweet. It was fine for a few sips but it nosedives into more of that herbal unpleasantness and bitterness that doesn't want to go away.

Tree of Grace Barleywine by Tree House
    [IMG]
    4.6/5 rDev +2.7%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5
Brewers notes: Tree of Grace is a barrel-aged barleywine ale aged in a mix of bourbon barrels for one year before an additional year aged in select rum barrels. A product of time, patience, and carefully studied brewing acumen, this beer presents over a decade of learned experience in its creation.

Pouring a luscious dark amber color into your glass, notes of molten toffee, butterscotch, and sticky rum cake coat the palate. On top of this quintessential foundation, aromas of fruit-laden marzipan, oven-toasted coconut, and dried tropical fruits swirl above the glass. Tree of Grace is a beer to be celebrated and enjoyed on a special occasion. Given its heft and complexity, it should age exceptionally and reward your patience for up to ten years.

Chilled pint bottle poured into a pretentious beer glass, thick rich dark brown cola colored liquid, one finger brown foam cap , languid carbonation slowly floats to the top

    Aroma of bourbon whiskey, coconut

Taste is sweet , dessert in glass, or caramel, toffee, marzipan , bourbon, dark fruits , butterscotch

Thick, soft, rich, decadent, syrupy , low carbonation. No heat

    Damn! This bastard tastes great!

    Great beer, recommended

DAB Ur-Bock from Dortmunder Actien Brauerei / DAB

The style sheet says that the proper glassware for a Bock is a tulip, but bollocks to that, a mug it is!

Poured a 500ml can into a pint glass. A two finger fine off white head on a clear amber. The head diminishes to a layer with good retention. lots of patchy lacing.

Malts in the nose. Some caramel. The taste follows the nose. A fairly simple taste profile. Moderately sweet. Minimal hop finish.

A medium body and medium/light carbonation. An interesting offering from DAB. I am well familiar with their Maibock but his one is new to me. The ABV is much more apparent. In common with other DAB releases this is not outstanding but true to the style.

Brasserie Court-Circuit (Bordeneuve, France - 5 miles south of Toulouse) ‘Folzer’ Triple au Miel - Barriquée

What we have here is a 75 cl capped bottle, 10% abv, organic Tripel - brewed with honey, aged in Armagnac barrels for 7 months. Armagnac is the product of a distillation process using white wine grapes. The brandy is aged for at least 2 years in French oak barrels. (Call it small batch Cognac, if you like.) The barrels used for this beer are from the Gers terroir, 50 miles west of Toulouse.

A drift of smoke erupts out the top on opening. Pours orange-gold with a short, impatient foam.

Nose is floral, fruity, honey, with wood notes present.

Taste leads tart before the barrel nuances pop out. Develops in the mouth exposing prune, quince, and apricot. The honey leaves its imprint, before a fruity and slightly boozy and dry finish. The combined aromas and flavors seem to be more concentrated as the brew warms, and the oak becomes a player.

Mouth is medium, medium to high carbonation.

Overall, locally sourced organic ingredients and creative barreling produce a real treat that beer, wine, or spirits drinkers can appreciate. Lovely and creative creation.

Appearance: Clear pale yellow, big head.

    Smell: Limes, crackers.

Taste: Touch of sweetness before the lime kicks in. Bread, limes, and salt, light bodied. Limes in the finish. Extremely drinkable.

Overall: I was looking for an easy summer drinker and found a 12 pack of this local. I liked Oskar Blues Mas Lima, this is similar but goes down even faster. It's almost like a sports drink with the lime and salt.

    Good morning denizens of NBW!
I had great plans for participating yesterday and as my flight was delayed I had plenty of time to find something I had never tried before.
Then the proverbial wheels came off the train.
Two gate changes and delays later, my flight simply disappeared from the departure board.
So an agent helped me switch to a different flight, albeit not as close to my destination and even later in the evening.
That flight also just ceased to exist.
Well crap. How was I supposed to get to where I needed to go?
Short answer? I wasn’t. There was simply no way for the airline to help me.
Of course, I was very, very far from the only person suffering from lack of options. The weather caused dozens of cancelled flights, maybe hundreds. Just in Denver.
Much more incredibly unlikely things happened over the next couple hours (including a midnight tour of parts of Denver that I didn’t think would be a good idea to visit in the daylight) and crashing on a couch in a room with a couple that I had met 90 minutes prior.
The good? I have so many interesting stories now of this trip. (I might write a book!)
Anyway. That is why I didn’t participate yesterday. Hope springs eternal for today though - Cheers!

My two new beers for today were my first from each respective brewery, each pictured, poured, with a postcard featuring a 1930 Hollywood picture of Gary Cooper (I mail one of these each week to my lady, even though we just live a seven-minute walk apart [six, if I'm feeling particularly feisty lol]; we're marrying this October, just before Halloween, as each of us adores horror movies)...

Good day BAs! Thanks @JackHorzempa for opening the thread - it reads like yinz had some good brews! I haven't posted in a while because I've had no new brews - cleaning out Beer Reefer #1 in anticipation for my upcoming (Tuesday) trip into the wilds of MN on my way to Frost Bite Falls (Do they have a statue of Rocky and Bullwinkle - they should!)

I'd forgotten that I'd ordered brews from Adroit Theory back on 15 Apr 25 (To be delivered after 20 May 25) until I received an email from them telling me some beers were on the way.

Atomic Age (Ghost Atomic Age) from Adroit theory. Four-pack of 16 fl oz cans. Ordered 15/04/25, received 10/07/25 from Adroit Theory on-line: $ 33.026 (Including shipping)/$ 0.516 per fl oz. Reviewed 12/07/25 (Review 3546). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stored at 37 degrees F at home. Served at 56.4 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 63.1 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4
First pour – Brown (SRM 20), nearly opaque.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, amber at the edges.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.5 cm, aggressive center pour). Tan brown, lightening to wheat as it oxygenates, high density, average retention, dropping to a 0.5 – 1.0 mm crown and no cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Weak coffee and faint roasted malt. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins slightly bitter with weak coffee and roasted malt. No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (12 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Moderate gastric warming.
Palate – 3.5– Medium: watery side of creamy: soft but lively carbonation.
Style: Sort of follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated can) Uncredited label artist. I assume this is fresh because it was just shipped, but that doesn’t excuse the undated can. This is a very weak example of the usually high quality RISes that Adroit Theory produces.

Thanks for getting us going, @JackHorzempa!

First new beer of the weekend was enjoyed yesterday evening..

    Oddpitch - Graveyard Sun

    Notes:
    P pours black w/ a 1f khaki head; looks good; med-quick recession
N med nose of roast, light chocolate, and a bit of coffee; pleasant
T a light chocolate forward over roasted malt gives way to coffee-like notes, char, and some earthy/woodsy bitterness/tanginess in the finish; hints of dark fruit and grainy character as well
Mf light-med bodied w/ med carb; fairly smooth; finish is on the coating side
O not a bad porter; was hoping to like it just a bit more (needed just a touch more sweetness to balance out the char/earthiness for me), but decent in its own right

    Cheers, NBWers!

12% amber ale aged in bourbon barrels with black cherry and orange added.

Thanks to @TCgenny for this beer. Cheers Tom.

Poured from bottle, the body is an opaque brown with short lived head. Very light lacing.

Aroma is a nice mix of bourbon barrel with notes of orange and cherry.

Taste follows nose but the flavors are deeper, more complex. A malty presence keeps everything balanced. The substantial ABV is not masked but held in check: ever present, but not hot.

Mouthfeel is good. Substantial but not heavy. Carbonation good.

    Delightful beer to savor.
