Brewers notes : Platinum Fern is an amped up, Triple IPA version of Silver Fern that exhibits the splendor of New Zealand hops. As it fills your glass, Nelson and Peacharine Hops meld the sweet perfume of white grape and summery peach. Beneath this harmony, Motueka hops burst with flavors of tropical fruits, while Waimea hops provide a subtle blend of citrus peel and woody aromatics. We hope you enjoy this dangerously drinkable treat and ponder what treasures lie hidden in plain sight.

Chilled 16 oz can poured into a Monhegan beer glass. , milky yellow liquid with three fingers off white shaving foam atop

    Aroma is tropical fruits, peaches

Taste is peach , orange citrus , tropical fruits

    Soft, smooth mouthfeel

    Delicious beer , recommended

Relaxing today at the resort in Panorama, BC after a ton of miles traveled since last Wednesday.

Getting into a nice coffee BA stout sourced in Calgary. This is from Nickel Brook in Burlington, ON. Unsure when this was bottled but must have been within the last 2 years. Onto the review:

    4.18/5 rDev -2.3%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Picked up a waxed 500ml bottle from the Co-op on Kensington cold beer room in Calgary on 7-11-25 for $22.99 CAD. Bottling date not discoverable; consumed 7-13-25.

Beer poured black with a nice tan head with the original pour.

Nose is coffee forward with a touch of the barrel in the background.

Taste is a large malt base that is medium roasted. Coffee addition is pretty heavy on strong roasted beans. Barrel imparts a touch of vanilla and some bourbon heat. Finishes well balanced with a nice mix of coffee roastiness, vanilla, and bourbon.

Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied with each sip being very smooth.

Overall this is a very nice coffee BA stout, glad i splurged on this!
    Cheers!

Welcome to a late edition of New Beer Sunday 1064! Two here before dropping the car back at the hotel and walking to the Arts District for as long as I can last.

7/13/25 - (The Red Dwarf) (Las Vegas, Nevada) Bar Notes: $7.00 16oz draft pour, 4.8% ABV.

Appearance: 16 oz draft served in a shaker pint yields an orange somewhat unfiltered appearance, creamy white head leaving a thin layer over the base. Sustained medium plus carbonation throughout. 3.25

Aroma: Faint bread and cracker aroma. Hard to gather. 2.75

Taste: Much fuller flavor, nice cracker bread, salty, a bit of pepper, and light honey peaking through.Very nice. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Dry and a little more hoppy and bitter than a typical Kolsch, but working for me. Drinks a bit higher than the ABV. Balanced, hops balancing out the sweet malt flavors. Salty cracker start to finish. 4.0

Overall: This is a good Kolsch, despite the minimal aroma and slight unfiltered appearance. Enjoying and would order again/recommend. 4.0

$7.00 16oz draft pour, 6.6% ABV. Collaboration with Green Cheek.

Appearance: 16 oz clear straw golden draft served in a shaker pint creamy white head plus generous lacing make this a good looking selection. Light carbonation. 4.25

Aroma: Tangerine, citrus, stone fruit, pineapple. Full strength and delicious. 4.5

Taste: Consistent with aroma, citrus replaced by tang, but everything else natural. Add pine bitterness. Nice. 4.00

Mouthfeel: Gentle carbonation, drinks at ABV. Sweet flavors balanced by a persistent bitterness. Pineapple pine dry finish. 4.25

Overall: This is a solid IPA by two solid breweries. Modern with traditional flavors, full flavored, nice balance. Recommend. 4.0

Clear, golden yellow body; tight, small-bubble and slow-rising carbonation; thick, long-lasting head, white and dense with a rich and creamy top. Grassy, vegetal nose; trace hint of spiciness. Light toasted malt base; medium presence of hop bitterness; herbal. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; smooth with a slippery denseness; finishes dry.

I have no idea why the beer is being offered in 8 fluid ounce cans, yet it isn't a bad idea. The beer itself is a pretty straightforward double India pale ale, west-coast in nature. Balanced with a spicy potency that easily draws you in. Overall, a fine DIPA.

Here's what's in the glass tonight:

Phantom Farms Elegant Viking, 6.5% hazy IPA. Says it is named after Kveik yeast.

Pours like low-pulp orange juice. Watery-looking pale orange yellow. Luscious pillows of foam that persists. Decent lacing.

Smells of orange/tangerine with a bit of peach and/or apricot.

Straightforward taste - no surprises other than a decent level of sweetness. The orange is prevalent but there's apricot for sure later in the taste. Mild bitterness after the fact. Nice aromatic citrus.

The feel is soft. Carbonation is mild.

Ok...this is tasty and easy to drink, simple and straightforward. It delivers what it is supposed to deliver. That said, no distinction from dozens of others of its ilk. Good beer, around a 3.75 or so.

    Hey All. Happy NBS(W).
Been super busy for the last almost 2 weeks. Had long days of work in Portland, Oregon. But squeezed in some breweries. But it was go go go.
Right now I’m enjoying Dwayne’s World from Fort George. (Got to visit the brewery- great place! I WILL be back.)

16 ounce can with a smudge date
Pours a tarnished gold color. Abundant fluffy with great retention. Clumpy lacing.
Starts out with a tropical dominance in the nose, then makes way for some citrus along the lines of grapefruit and Keylime zest, and a hint of weed.
Flavor starts again with a tropical. Picking up hints of pineapple, a bit of guava, and some grass. Then some pity grapefruit rind. Then a nice herbal note that goes in a pine meets weed resin direction. A nice undercurrent of grainy malt as well.
Mouth feel is just shy of medium in half, good carbonation keeps things alive, and finishes with a mild bitterness.

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body pours yellow with a light haze from the unfiltered wheat base. A couple of fingers of white fluffy head. Good lacing.

Aroma is coriander, clove and a bit of citrus.

Taste follows nose as the clove and citrus work well with a bready, creamy wheat base. Taste cleans up quickly at finish, but there is a welcome trailing light bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium but creamy. Solid carbonation.

A nice summertime beer that refreshes on a hot day.

Well, the Timbers match in St. Louis didn't go the way I was hoping, but I did find a New Beer at Legends.

    Gigantic Wonder Crusher Pale Ale

16-ounce pour in a plastic cup at Legends, the clubhouse of the Timbers Army, during the watch party for the St. Louis vs. Portland Timbers MLS match.

The beer is golden orange and moderately hazy, with an off-white head that leaves pretty impressive sheets of lacing on the plastic. The nose is full of orange peel and toasty malt. And so is the taste. Starts with juicy orange that's not too sweet. Malt takes the lead in the middle, with notes of toasted multigrain bread and a squeeze of orange honey. A restrained bitterness partners with a tangy citrus bite in the short finish. The medium body feels a touch heavy for the beer's 4.2% strength. Overall, this is a simple and enjoyable pale ale with a tasty balance of citrus and malt.

    On Sundays we drink Barleywine.
Okay, I borrowed that from @Dimidiata because it seemed like such a good idea.
My gaming beer this week is another one sent to me by @Ozzylizard - and another with a curious name.
    The French Crick Furry
    [IMG]

The pour was promising; dark amber or reddish brown with a short light brown head which left no lacing.
The taste is not at all what I expect from a barleywine; no toffee, no warm fruit compote - not precisely certain what I was tasting. That said, it *was* tasty, I just wouldn't have thought it was a barleywine if the can didn't proclaim this fact.
The feel is not bad, but thinner than I expect a barleywine to be.
OA, this may be the brewer's opinion on what a barleywine should taste like, but it's not going to change many minds on the matter.
As I tend to rate to the style I didn’t rate it very highly but it was tasty enough, I even enjoyed it. Just a very odd take on the style.
    Cheers!

I’ll be sure to send you an electronic copy, which is very probably the only format it will ever see. And not so much a book as a short story. I don’t have the creative chops to write a book. Not sure about a short story either, but I’m going to try.

6.2% ABV Maibock, collaboration with Human Robot Brewery. It's pretty tasty - malty, toasty, nutty, and earthy. I probably would have enjoyed this a bit more if it was slightly less sweet. Overall though, I enjoyed it and I would drink it again.

    Abuden - Kuranomachi Lager

350ml can served in a stemless BA rastal. Sticker on the bottom says 25.05.05 and 24.01.02. Bought it during one of my more recent trips to Japan and brought it home, I think.

Pours clear orange-gold with a big, 3-4 finger head that settles into a lumpy layer with some thick, clotty lacing. Smell is lemon and citrus, floral honey, some grain.

Taste is very grainy, lots of grain husk. Lemony/citrusy notes are still there, but definitely dominated by grain. Grassy and lemon rind bitterness, but not too punchy.

Mouthfeel is light, dry, very effervescent. Overall, it's not bad.

Straight Outta Portland by Migration Brewing.

    12 oz undated can.
Beautiful golden pour. Fluffy white head pumps 2 fingers of firm foam. Good retention. Layered, almost clumpy lacing.
Nose is a smooth melange of malt and hops. Citrus notes are orange zest, tangerine, and a hint of grassy lime. A mellow pine resin chimes in synchronicity with a slightly sweet malt note.
Flavor follows the nose faithfully. Liking this a lot. Really hitting the hops and malt balance while still allowing for the spotlight to bounce around to the different players. Citrus, pine, malt, mild herb… They all shine.
Mouthfeel is right on for style. Finish has a little bitter with a mild sweet click at the end.
