Had some Foggier Window yesterday and man, it is significantly better than hazy stuff Green Cheek puts out - which I used to think was just as good as Monkish
We took the stadium express bus from the Harbor Gateway transit station straight to the stadium. Free parking, free bus ride to & from and looks like some guys were drinking onboard while traveling up the 110 Frey to the stadium. I think it stopped 3 times on the freeway to pick up dodger fans. I would suggest getting the bus from Harbor Gateway as all the seats were full and those who got picked up along the way ended up standing. No hassle, no $45 parking fee, no jammed up trying to get out after the game. You could also get the bus at Grand Central station near Chinatown.
I’ve always thought Monkish haze was much better than Green Cheek’s aside from The Other Brian which is a god tier hazy imo. So working in Anaheim, I have a pretty simple rule, GC for westies and Monkish for hazies except when The Other Brian is available.
The people who pretend all the other breweries around LA make better hazies than Monkish are just pretending they’re better because of other places being cheaper.
Haha! I have the same deal but it's Monkish for hazy and Highland Park for westies. Monkish has been doing some pretty good westies lately, though. I used to get westies from GC, too--I used to LOVE theirs--but they started tasting too thin for me at some point and now I never go down to OC for beer anymore so I haven't tried any GC in a while.
Of the cans currently available at Monkisn Torrance, what would you hazy experts recommend to introduce someone to a classic NE IPA? I was planning on just getting some hazies, but I see that they also have a Pils and Helles available right now. Any opinions on either of those beers?
Their pilsner IMO are not good. Way too hoppy in comparison to what i prefer The helles is OK , but not something I'd make the drive there for.
Thanks, I actually really like hoppy Pilsner‘s as long as it’s not that tropical shit, and it looks like they use German Noble hops. Is Foggy Window kind of their flagship IPA?
Yes, FW would be one of their flagship hazy’s. Probably one of a handful I get these days from Monks. It’s been awhile since I last bought any cans from them. I do have a mix 4 coming soon as a buddy bought some and giving me 4 cans. I hope FW’s is one of the mix 4.
I don’t want to come off as oppositional to @Resistance88 , but Monkish knocked it out of the park with their Pils. Very light bodied with one of the best noble hop flavor/ aroma that I’ve had in a while, it’s a good replacement for Pivo Pils, especially the 6 month old cans that I had earlier this summer.
Everyone is Anti Resistance! Glad you enjoyed it, man! They're opening soon about a mile away from me and i may be stopping by sometimes. Beats walking to HpB
I think Monkish makes pretty good beer. I don’t really like the style that they specialize in, but they probably don’t either, they just know where the money’s at.
ISM makes better westies than HPB imo. Also, Everywhere. Green Cheek also, though inconsistent. Hazewise, nobody touches Monkish. They basically make hop smoothies. Timbo is still awesome though, as is Hello LA.
