What places do you think fly under the radar? Just for beer. Not venue, vibe, etc. Just their beer. No restrictions to what you want to list but I'm going to go with three that do not distribute off-sale other than crowlers at the brewery that may not be as known to some. -BeerClub Brewing (Mora): Was there earlier this summer and found a wide variety of well-made German style beers. -Northbound (Mpls): Been around awhile now and is real out of the way for me as well but I always find a way to get there a couple times a year. Quality beers all around but their bocks are truly special. -Spilled Grain (Annadale): They've done well in contests, and I find all their beers well made. They have my #1 ranked cream ale as well.
Bang in St Paul (no, I won’t stop recommending this place) Geisenbrau in New Ulm. Great German styles. Its been a couple years, but their Wildblume IPA is one of the best I've had. Agree with Steel Toe, Bad Weather, and Northbound. I've not been to any of the others mentioned. Road trip!
Yeah that's New Prague for Geisenbrau. It's a place high on my list to visit...have had a few of their offerings in cans and thought they were solid to very good.
I like Back Channel in Spring Park. They distribute without a lot of chatter on here . They make great lagers, stouts,NEIPA, and Berliner Wiesse beer . Taproom is nice with lake access Another of note is Elm Creek.
Second for Elm Creek. Also would add Tanzenwald Brewing in Northfield and Montgomery Brewing in Montgomery.
Some really good breweries already mentioned. I would add Hayes Public House and Torg to the list, especially for their British styles.
Funny, I was going to mention Hayes last Saturday when I was there but forgot. If you like Irish Stouts on cask, Irish Reds and English Bitters it's the place for you. Also have a really nice coffee Porter. My only issue is seating is sparse and they almost always have their "crew" standing around the end of the bar. I feel like I'm coming into someone else's personal brewery most of the time. They're nice guys and gals, but it's a little weird. Otherwise, I do love the vibe and their beers.
Yes..agree with these both but particularly Steel Toe who would easily be in my top 3-5 breweries. Played in a tennis tournament in St. Louis Park Thursday-through today and stopped in each day after the tournament.... Size 7 is my favorite IPA in MN...Carbide might be #2...their Hefe was tasting great on draft (much better than the cans I've had in the past), their dunkel is legit and they have a dandy of a Barleywine right now that would rank at near the top of my BW list...
Although I've never visited, I've always been impressed with any beers I've tried from Falling Knife.
Kid number three just moved to the Linden Hills neighborhood. Close by is Wooden Ships Brewery. I thought it was very solid with a nice variety of styles.
