A flight of beers at Brewery 1876, the legacy brewery that honors the predecessor of what eventually became Sapporo Beer. There is an unfiltered lager, an altbier, and a weizen. All of them pretty tasty.


Beautiful location too, with an original brick building hosting the taproom.

Going with the second July 2025 Deep Woods selection, beer not new to me but this vintage is. This is an Imperial Rye Stout I’ve loved in the past, and the release this year carries the tradition well. Comparing to my draft review from 2020, I find the aroma (sharp rye, smooth bourbon) and varied flavors (Rye, bourbon, barleywine (which it is not), are consistent, with improvement in the mouthfeel (thicker) and sweetness level (less sweet) bumping this vintage from 4.25 to 4.50 overall, and mouthfeel up a half point to 4.25. Binny’s Big Box provided the barrels. Great job Revolution.

Paired with Polish Rye Bread with butter, pecans and K. BILLY Super Sounds of the 1970s by this Chicago artist who anticipated the release of this beer in 1972.

I will say it once more. It is a total crime for this beer to not be available outside of Hokkaido.

Kirin - Brau Meister


The city of Sapporo is organizing a huge beer fest in its Odori Park (a long park that runs through the center of city), where Japan's biggest breweries (Kirin, Suntory, Sapporo, Asahi) have set up huge tents with beer, food and entertainment in something that resembles a Japanese Oktoberfest (but it's in the summer and there are no festbiers). Crazy busy and loud. Gotta love it.

Happy Wednesday ba. Nice to see a busy start to the ba bar. Looks to be the last day of this slight heat wave here on the island.

Same start as yesterday: The Riverway, ipa (citra/mosaic), trillium. Much more pronounced fruit notes this morning- mango, and honeydew melon. Nice hop juice. Will try to grab more if it’s still available,
