Cool, wasn't even sure how many BAs are familiar with Helen, GA. That Hofbräuhaus has been there for a while. I like to make the trek up in October after the crowds die down. The weather is cooler and fall is in full swing. Neat place to hang and drink German beers!

A great time and setting to enjoy malty beers like an Oktoberfest.:beers:

    Cheers!

How's the food? Have you added it to @PapaGoose03 spreadsheet on German food/beer restaurants?

Yes, I did add it a while back. Food is good. We have a couple of places north of Atlanta that are better - Kurt's Bistro in Duluth & Gasthaus Tirol in Cumming - but it nice to get some German beers and food and enjoy the North GA scenery.

Helen got rid of their bear pits, didn't they? That was sort of weird.

And one didn't have to pay artificially high prices to cover the cost of the trans-Atlantic ocean shipping.

Feels like CO is late to the party this year. Oktoberfest beers have only been showing up for the last 5-10 days. There's nary a pumpkin in sight, too. For the last couple years both started popping up a couple weeks after the 4th of July. Dare I say it, but it feels like a return to normalcy.

As far as good ones go, this is the first time I've had the one from Lawson's. IMO, it's wonderful, too. It walks that line between the pale ones (that might as well just be an export IMO) and the thick burnt orange variety. Just a little bit of toasty character to keep me coming back without being heavy and sticky. It's pretty ideal for my tastes. I'm happy that they're sending CO. more than just 2-3 core beers now.

About a yr ago I got a single (last one) at Binny's in Bloomington, IL. I freaked how good it was. Hoping this '25 batch is up there. Got the last 6er in a local store across town.

Never seen this before. Is it essentially a black IPA or is it showcasing their Belgian influences?

It's a black IPA. Unfortunately, Allagash has stopped making new Belgian beers, same as Ommegang. But this is really good!
