Bummer overall, but that's a good thing in the case of this beer. The number of hoppy Belgian beers I enjoy = pretty limited, but I love a good black IPA.

Yep. A Black IPA with a lovely feel and splendid dark fruit notes.

For nation-wide releases it's limited, but the tap room still has plenty of goodies.

Next time I make it up to Maine (probably never), I'll check it out.

Nice local marzen, and new Warlock variety - tasty stuff!

That beer is glorious, picked it up last year and was blown away. Can’t wait to see that pop up by me again:beers:

How’s the maple warlock compare to the regular?

    Maple Warlock >>> Caramel Pumking

However... I almost prefer the original better, or its at least a tie.

It is pretty subtle, in the maple department - good though, in a world with damn few pumpkiny stouts to choose from in the fall - this is good, either the new Maple or the original - both quite nice!

I picked up a sixer of this years Sierra Nevada/Störtebeker collaboration festbier over the weekend. I quite enjoyed it.

bready and mildly toasty with a moderate caramel sweetness. Peppery spiciness, and a herbal hop presence. Medium/light bodied and moderately carbonated, with a clean finish.

    Love the glass!

With what looks like a fairly aggressive pour and the chill haze it almost looks like a New England IPA.

Part of what I love about that beer is that you do get the Allagash yeast notes on the finish @Domingo.

Call it what you want but it’s roasty and hoppy; with a finish to me, that has whispers of fall in the form of light yeast driven spices, a unique and delicious beer in my opinion.

Black IPA is what BA defines it as. Of the 111 reviews of this beer, 8 reference "Belgian, spicy yeast, Belgian Dark" as kind of a crossover or blend. I see that your review of it does't mention any Belgian-type qualities.
I've tried this beer one time. Now I have a 6pk so I'll keep a Belgian thought in place when getting into it again. See what happens. :beers:

If they're using Allagash house yeast, it's got to be blended with a more neutral yeast. I would attribute any spicy notes to the hops used or it just being in your head because it's from a brewery that historically only made Belgian style beers. I'll approach it with a more open mind when I pick it up this year.

Thanks, I don't get to break this glass out very often. The beer poured very clear, but it was a bit humid out, and the beer was quite cold.

Finally - the last of the 6 "Big German" marzen / festbiers, has shown up in my neck of the beer woods....I really like this beer!

TW has it near me for $34 a case. I may go big on Hofbrau this Oktoberfest if I get over there soon enough. Prost!

This is the first time that I've ever seen mini-kegs at my store. Anyone else seeing them, or are these a new imported treat?

I got a Hofbrau mini keg maybe 4 years ago. I thought it was really cool. Now I see the mini kegs for $29.99 which doing the math is not a good deal.

I've seen those Paulaner mini-kegs here in the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin. First time seeing those I believe.

HB has yet to make its way to any stores I've been to here in the Cities. There have been mini-kegs of it in previous years.
