Sounds like they waited too long to try this one.

    Been there, done that.

Schneider puts these special beers limited eddition every once in awhile, always called Tap X. Sometimes they have cork tops which mean you have to rotate them like Champagne. This one was way to old.

We don't know if it was stored properly either. I know you can cellar doppelbock and eisbock, but but you're probably right. Seven year old is pushing the envelope. About the only thing I look forward to about winter time here in Georgia is I get more in the mood for those styles. I'd love to see my local breweries do more but few consumers here know them.

Favorite local brewery and probably my favorite of their beers; Roaring Table Festbier.

Smooth, bready, just the right herbal hop balance.

Frustrating too. I'd love to see a local brewery give it a shot.

Good afternoon BAs! Cross post from WBAYDN? Enjoying the deliciousness of my favorite Märzenbier of all Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen. I don't know why, but I enjoy these pint bottles more than the 11.2 oz ones. Not just because it is more beer but they (in my head) just seem to taste beer. This is a world class Märzen by a mile. Prost!

I finally had the chance to grab some of the Tucher Festbier. Distro seems sort of spotty around me.

While drinkable enough, this one seems to lean more on bitter, herbal hopping than a good malt/hop balance. HB still my favorite import Festbier.

Now that I have Weihenstephaner and HB to compare, I'm going to have to revisit Tucher.

    Eibauer Schwarzbier

Pleasant cereal and roasted malt aroma. Creamy carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel. Just slightly sweet with a malty taste. Roasted grain flavor but not a charred taste. Just the slightest bitter aftertaste. Overall this is a better than average example of the Schwarzbier style. From the 500 ml can dated 01/04/2025.

And a little nip of single malt as well? Sounds like a rather full evening.

    Früh Kölsch

Clear golden brew with a handsome head in the tulip. Slight aroma of malt and grain. Clean and crisp. Malty flavor with a touch of leafy, Euro hops. Plentiful carbonation with a sudsy mouthfeel. Kind of a simple Lager taste with a slight sweetness. This doesn't have any of the "perfumey" hop flavors I like in a Kölsch, but it's quite drinkable, for what it is.

I'll probably get considerable push back from this, but roughly a year ago my wife and I did a brewery pub crawl in Cologne as part of of our Viking tour. The beers were interesting, with some better than others, but across the board I thought the kolsch brewed by Chuckanut, Pfriem and various other PNW breweries superior. It was a considerable surprise, especially as I can't say this about any other German beer style.
