    Friday -
Today was a bit of a simple day for the itinerary. From Nürnberg we traveled to Spalt to tour Stadtbrauerei Spalt, which exclusively uses the varities Spalt and Spalt Premium hops in their beers. Can't be any simpler than that. After the tour we all enjoyed a bottle from a selection of their beers. I had their No.1 Pils and my wife had the Hell.

From there we drove downtown and had lunch at Wittlesbacher Hof where we all had another Spalter beer with our food. The liver dumpling soup and salad went well with the Spalt Hell, and my wife had the Dunkel. This time the beers were on tap vs. the room temp bottles that we had at the brewery, which gave me the opportunity to compare both serving styles of the Hell. Colder is better.

Next on the schedule was a long drive to Freising for a visit to Weihenstephan. We were supposed to tour the brewery and then have dinner, but we were running late from the first places, and then further late because of jammed traffic at two road construction sites along our route. We had to cancel the tour and settle for a couple beers and some appetizers. But it was exciting to visit this renowned brewery.

So the tour has ended. However, we are staying in Germany for another week. First off will be a meet-up tomorrow with @Bavarican for a day trip to Aying and a visit to Brauerei Ayinger for a tour and lunch. Looking forward to that.

The rest of the week we will be visiting our German 'daughter' who we hosted for a high school year back in the 90s. Plus we'll meet-up with a former roommate from our college days back in the 70s. (We visited with both of these people back in 2017 during our last trip to Germany, so seeing them isn't so long ago as the events occurred.)

That must be very frustrating that you missed the Weihenstephan tour.

Spalter has been on my bucket list for a few years but the town has no rail station so I haven't made it there yet. I'd like to hope their beers use the wonderful local hops extravagantly.

And my personal training occurred today.

I've held a moonshine jug balanced on the back of my wrist when I was younger and nimble, but my wrist wouldn't bend back far enough to allow that masskrug to settle down like in the pic. Maybe my hand was too far through the handle. My new German friend, @Bavarican, made it look so easy. Danke.

    Saturday -
My wife and I had a meet-up with @Bavarican today and traveled via train to Aying. We did a tour of the brewery which included a sampling of a beer from the lagering tank. Another beer was included in the tasting room at the end of the tour.

We then walked to the Ayinger Bräustüberl for a late lunch and more beer. I had the biggest schnitzel I've ever seen along with a Kirtabier. This is a new-to-me style that I'm going to have to research a little further. A walk back to the train did nothing to work off all the food and beer consumed at Ayinger today.

I won't be posting anything further about this trip because it all becomes personal stuff now. However, with a former college roommate involved for a day, beer will still occupy some of my time the rest of the way.

After I get home and have a chance to collect all of my notes, I'll try to close the thread with some summary thoughts.

    See you later.

Yeah, that's the moonshine jug pour, I prefer what I saw most in Munich -- as you described earlier.

Just that I woke up the next day and wondered why the knuckle of my index finger was sore... then I grabbed the first Maß of the day -- oh yeah.

    Um. "German" friend?

I'm impressed that I ate that whole thing. There was a pile of fries underneath it that were pretty much ignored though.

Our tour guide actually allowed each of us to pour our own but that pic is stuck on my wife's camera. (The same as two other tours where we drank from the tank.)
