Almost a decade ago I also went to their old brewery tap and I did really enjoy their Dunkel – it was richly malty where some Munich versions are thin.
Weihenstephan enters the heart of Munich: Platzl, here we come! Weihenstephan state brewery is coming to Munich's Platzl. The World's Oldest Brewery is moving into the historic surroundings of Munich's old town - a perfect fit: a combination like hops and malt and a real upgrade for the Platzl. The state brewery will open a restaurant at Platzl in the beginning of 2026. The concept for the “Weihenstephaner am Platzl” envisages a special Weihenstephan bar with around 180 seats (plus outdoor area), which combines sophisticated beer culture and beer variety with fine Bavarian food culture. The future catering premises are located in a building owned by the Free State of Bavaria and used by the Bavarian State Opera. This will mean that visitors will no longer have to go to Freising the get all the Weihenstepheners. It will be right next door to the "Ayinger am Platzl" and the "Hofbräuhaus"
Did you know about their location in Wiesbaden? I discovered its existence when I was researching for a place to meet my old college roommate this past week, but it was a crummy day for weather so we didn't get to go out there.
Super! That'll give us another option, besides Aying and Schneider, for something other than a Helles, Dunkel or Weissbier.... Prost!!
