    Oh goody.

    (puff, puff)

I'll believe it when it finally (months after the release notice) hits the NE Kansas stores.

Too bad it was long ago one of the watered-down, shell of itself that almost all lagunitas brews became after the buyout.

I'll pass, especially after the news that Willetized is now DOA.

Dear Lagunitas, R.I.P., you're not worth searching out for anything anymore.....go spark up another one, stoners & just sell out to Sapporo & be done with it........

    (puff, puff)

    "What day is it again?"

I never could get into Lagunitas IPAs, but this was a great beer, hopefully I’ll end up with some in my fridge!

    Heineken!

    I meant Heineken!

Aaaand believe it or don't, what should I find in one of my local liquor stores yesterday but a sixer of 'Shugga' for only $10.49!

It wasn't singled out & since it was at an affordable price point I figured, how bad/watered down could it be, what the hell?

    Well, THIS bad.........

It's got less than half of the old 'Brown Shugga' mouthcoating, tung-scrapin', sticky sweet body and also less than half of the old intense, boozy, brown sugar/caramelly/toffee/malty flavor that I remember.

Now, for those of you unfortunate enuf to have never tasted the original Brown Shugga years ago I repeat, it's still a good strong ale at a more than reasonable price point, but like all Lagunitas brews since the buyout, it tastes thinner, with less body and less flavor than what I recall.

    I'm done with Lagunitas.

As another Untapper said: "Lag is almost dead. Say, a zombie for the time being."

And I'll say, considering after the buyout, the only 4 brews that were worth searching out (IMO) were Waldos, Willetized, Born Yesterday and Maximus (& all of those brews are definitely now thinner and less flavorful than pre-buyout to me) so it's just not worth it anymore stoners.

Oh for the days of IN-TENSE Waldos, Willetized, Brown Shugga, Hairy Eyeball, Lucky 13, Undercover Shutdown, Espresso Stout, etc., etc.

    Good times, great memories, sayonara.........

@blueshawk69 I'm not even sad that willettized is gone. The only "good" thing about it was that it was 'cheap".
I miss NightTime, Equinox, USD, Copper, WTF and the rest as well but nothing lasts forever

Are we calling the Brown Shugga? It doesn't seem to have it's own entry. I'm going to open one shortly.

To clarify, I don't believe I ever tasted the "original" Shugga recipe years ago, but I did have the Brown Shugga ("akin to feeding raw shark to your gerbil") numerous times years & years & years ago in the 'teens.

Either the stoners took this 'original' recipe and really jumped up the hops & malt bill to make Brown Shugga, or this recently released 'original' version of Shugga is as I stated, a far cry from the Brown Shugga beer of yore.

Again, it's still a good strong ale & reasonably priced but not at all as tasty as the old Brown Shugga I remembered.

I'll echo the review I just posted here:

This would be quite good -- if I hadn't had the original Brown Shugga. Still a great Strong Ale, but also a little misleading to say this exactly follows the original recipe when, IMO, there's a reason they still released it under a different name.

I think the biggest change here is the thinner mouthfeel and the overall subdued brown sugar/caramel malt flavor compared to the original.

    Definitely!
I’ll also add …bombers of Hop Stoopid (and Sucks bombers) and 6 packs of Lil Sumthin WILD. Those were all go-to’s.

Add OG Sucks to this list. Nighttime was probably the best tasting and best example of a black IPA imo.

Grabbed some this weekend. Surely it brings back memories of 2011 when I'd have many of these along with Olde GnarlyWine, Undercover, Imperial Red, Stoopid, Sucks, etc.
This is a good strong ale at a great 6-pack price. It definitely isn't as "strong" as I remember, but my taste buds and the many different types of beers out there have certainly affected that.

Go get some and remember the good ol' days.

I picked up a six pack of Brown Sugga, man it was really fruity, almost like a Belgian yeast driven beer. Maybe my taste is off, I’ve been dealing with allergies.

It wasn’t really brown in color, but was light for a 10% beer. I was actually confusing this with India Brown from Dogfish, that’s what I was expecting, so the first beer was a shock to my senses. Way to fruity for my taste.
