So I'm going to take a shockingly different approach. I would like to start a conversation about "rare" or "should-be-desired" beers from Washington. I mean for goodness sake... we have caravans of Seattle BAs about to go to Hellshire III. I'm standing in line for the next HOTD event and Upright is about to have a line down the block for Fantasia. It really is needed from Washington BAs to discuss good beer:slight_smile: I'm sure there are more beers besides BA-fremont beers and wisdomseeker that are desirable across the country. I nominate the following beers:
    bourbon barrel grandfather raven
    le fat
    trumpeter

    what else?
    Dan

Dan, I'm not kidding. If there's ever a line at Fremont for a beer release, I will put a curse on you. What are you out to prove? I'm going to lobby to get this thread deleted ASAP.

I missed the story. Are we shut off? By the Brothers A? Why? Too much community chatter? We are Craft Beer! This is just how we talk when we drink good beer.

The first rare beer in WA
    I so ISO
    Miss you all

I couldn't disagree more! some of the best times I've ever had with this whole craft beer thing have been in long lines waiting for releases. I get to connect on such a more personable level with brewers and BAs! The bottle shares that often happen with rare releases and trading often is more fun than the release itself! Hotd I get to speak with Alan, say hi to his dog and participate in a social event. Hellshire 1 was a great beer road trip with local BAs. Fantasia was also fun as was BA yeti. I have such the opposite view as most of you guys on this. I don't enjoy the beer itself as much if I'm drinking it alone. I like sharing in an experience with others:slight_smile: that's also why I try to go to each Brouwers festival and organize bottle shares!
So I'll always advocate for small batch limited releases  they've been some of the best experiences of my craft beer life:-D

Are you saying there's more to craft beer than sitting in front of a computer screen?

I guess we're on different sides of the fence on this one. I rarely if ever drink alone, but I enjoy the company of one or two of my good friends and/or my wife. You extroverts think everyone likes to meet new people and participate in social events. These are excruciating for us introverts --- I will avoid like the plague a beer event that requires that I "mingle" and share.

More specifically, if my dog and I can't pop in on Fremont in the middle of the day and pick up limited Fremont releases because out-of-towners and their mules have snatched it all up to trade for some Heady Topper or some shit, I WILL put a curse on you and your ilk.

So, let's compromise: You keep the "Hey, let's turn every limited release into a frenzy" threads to a minimum and I'll stop bitching about it. You keep your bottle shares at Brouwer's fests, etc. and I'll keep my distance. Deal?

Is this a reference to something specific or are you just saying you're already planning on coming down for the next release whenever that is?

I can't tell if you are kidding...
I wouldn't WANT people to stop bitching. It's the bitching that helps our local market! hype, talk, news articles, blogs, tweets, private messaging, word-of-mouth, private invitations, scheming with friends deciding what time to show up to a release, booking plan tickets, planning trades, and just hanging out. these all promote and hype beer! I firmly believe this helps breweries:slight_smile:
If you don't want to be surrounded by people, then just ask some of us BAs to pick up a bottle or two for you. we all know your screen name and I'm sure we'd be happy to help.
Also, you can ask anyone who has hung out with me in person, I'm not a big loud-mouthed extrovert. I just like chilling and hanging out. I'm really low-key (not after 4 artic devils like at fred fest but in general:wink:)

It all goes back to what we've been talking about forever on this thread. If a beer gets too hyped, find another one that isn't! But if fremont starts getting super hyped, more bars will get their normal beers on tap so they can get the rare beers. More stores will do stacks and make room for their cans and bottles so they can get more allocated releases. This helps Fremont AND the craft beer scene. Then in the future, if fremont or any brewer want to expand, they can with happy and excited investors!

I don't know... i just have a hard time relating.
    The more hyped the merrier.
    The rarer the better.

FWIW (and it's not worth much, I'm sure), I'm w/ BuckeyeOne on this one. I'm not even that much of an introvert, but I'd rather drink good beer with people whose company I truly enjoy than drink outstanding beer with a bunch of people I don't know. I'm sure these events are great and all, I just don't have time to stand in line and deal with the whole feeding-frenzy thing. I love being able to casually drop in at Fremont on my way home on a Wednesday and pick up a few bottles of B-Bomb, and I hope that doesn't change. I've got a whole other life that doesn't revolve around beer.

If beer releases start following the trends we hear about from other parts of the country, I'm afraid I'll just have to miss out on some of the best beers our region has to offer. And I'm already missing out on a lot of them.

Well said sir, this is probably the medium of the argument, and my personal view. However I honestly doubt this thread will create a frenzy in WA that brings hoarder and their mules from different regions creating stupid long lines and less access to local brew.

This thread has come at a perfect time as I am ISO of awesome local limited releases. I was searching taplisters for bars and brews in the area and I found many beers ive never heard of, and most had no rating. A list of rares in the area would be very helpful, so I know whether or not its worth the trip to seattle to go to a bar with a brew on tap that I have never even heard of before.
