What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4755

OK, Ok, you caught me red-handed. Yes, I’m getting double-duty out of my Bavarian pretzel today with two photo shoots. I swear, I’m eating it with my Festbier this time!

About 40 minutes north of Frankfurt is the town of Lich, Germany. Well what the heck does that have to do with today’s chug, Benediktiner Festbrau? Hang in there, I’ll tell ya!

Benediktiner Weissbräu is better known for their tasty wheat beers. More so than brewing Festbiers anyway, a very traditional beer, since the 1970’s. Hey, that’s 50 years! Time really flies when you’re drinking!

Getting back to the story, Licher Privatbrauerei, out of Lich Germany, brews Benediktiner Weisbrau under contract. I say that’s a great idea! Get everyone into the game!

Benediktiner Festbrau is a traditional Lager, and like the Warsteiner I drank previously, really splits the difference I think beween a Festbier (Paulaner being the reference standard) and a traditional Märzen/Oktoberfest. More chuggable than a Märzen, it’s still a not quite as gluggable as what I’ve been drinking styled as Festbiers. Again, I think this might be a case of the marketing guys trying to have it both ways in one beer... or tight brewing budgets! Still great! Prost!

Mikerphone Special Sauce IPA (Mosaic). This one used to be a hazy DIPA and it was one of the first examples of the style in Chicagoland back in 2015, but they downsized the recipe for this batch and are looking for it to be part of their core lineup going forward. I'm not mad about the change. This one is soft and refreshing, with a bright and tropical Mosaic hop character full of ripe tangerine, papaya, mango, herbaceous dank, slight apricot, earthiness, pine. Excellent hazy IPA.


The label reminds me of this banger:
