Some Allagash Curieux before dinner with my grandparents. I'm tremendously fortunate to still have them with me this far into my life.

    1) Modist The Time Is Nigh (5.2%):
A Festbier from Minnesota aged in oak barrels for flavors of pale Munich malts, some. honey and floral notes with some hints of earthy oak
    versus
    2) Insight Schickemode (5.8%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of pale Munich malt, honey, graham cracker, and toasted notes. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Minnesota Festbier Battle. First is Modist. An oak-aged festbier. Earthy, yet clean.
Next is Insight. A bit more sweet graham cracker and honey notes. Excellent as well.
I really like Modist's nuance of oak-aging their lagers for a more earthy quality.
Winner: Modist The Time Is Nigh

Seen Kettlehead at a couple stores. Says brewed in CT, tho. So is it really Kettlehead? This doesn’t live up to my expectations… @SawDog505 might know what the deal is. I see him drinking a lot of their stuff

I think it's just how much beer is on the shelves - and how much of it is IPAs. There is more beer than people can buy and consume, so even good beer is going to go stale. It's inevitable. People just aren't buying as much beer as is available, and that's probably a function both of changing American tastes (it's well documented that as a country we're drinking less beer), and of increased capacity and distribution, especially by local breweries.

    1) Toppling Goliath King Sue (7.8% canned 9/5/25): A NEIPA from Iowa since 2014 that is brewed with Citra hops and has flavors of orange citrus, pineapple, and tropical mango.
    versus
    2) Toppling Goliath Mosaic Mamba (8.5% canned 9/30/25): A NEIPA from Iowa with Mosaic and Galaxy for flavors of orange, melon, and mango. Smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Tuesday Toppling Goliath Battle BeerAdvocates. The King vs The Mamba. Not the first or last time I'll do this battle. The King has more of the bright orange, peach, mango flavor. Mamba has more of the tropical berry flower from Mosaic. Both juicy, yet soft and clean. One of the best batches of The King I've had and Mosaic is drinking more complex than I remember. Toppling Goliath has it dialed in recently with the drinkability and limiting hop burn. Both amazing and the Mamba is growing on me.
    Winner: Toppling Goliath King

Enjoying a very well-made BA Barleywine from Tree House. The barrel is very subtle and balancing and allows the flavorful base brew to stand out. Not too shabby for $8 can.

Spaten Münchner Hell, the originator of the Munich Helles style. Though it’s the original, it’s definitely not the best helles I’ve had (though it’s still perfectly drinkable). Glass is from Higgins Ale Works, a tiny 2-bbl-ish brewery that is across the street from the enormous Spaten facility in Munich.
