A beer so thick it had to be taken out of the copper with buckets and 6 times the calories of a normal beer? I think we found the inventor of the pastry stout….
I can vouch for Total Wine selling ancient beer (still at full prices, of course!). Walked into the Overland Park, KS. store today & there was only one I hadn't had (or was interested in before in the singles coolers, a 2xipa from 903. Put it in the cart & then after a minute remembered to check the can date. December 2024. Still at $6.99/16oz. can. Nope. Found a four pack of 16oz. Kros Strain Dark Lager for $13, couldn't find any date so bought it. In the warm section of singles, found an ipa from November 2024 and another ipa from July 2023(!). Then I got home and discovered the Kros Strain dark lager did have a canned date...2/24/25...8 months old. I'll never walk into another Total Wine store again.
I had a similar experience a few years back, website said a beer had limited availability at a nearby store but couldn’t be ordered for pickup, so I popped in to look for it. Couldn’t find it after scouring the aisle so I asked an employee, and he went to the computer to check. After a quick search he laughed and said If you do find it please don’t buy it: the system doesn’t show that the last stock ever got sold, but the last time we got that beer in was a little over 2 years ago…
I had a 27yr old beer a few months ago (George Gale & Co Prize Old Ale (1998), 9% ABV) thanks to @Ozzylizard . It was OKish, slight cardboard taste. Can't imagine how a 150yr old beer might taste.
