What beer are you drinking now? #4781

1) Sierra Nevada Celebration (6.8% canned 10/3/2025): An IPA from California with Cascade, Centennial, Chinook for flavors of soapy orange, pine resin, and a smooth caramel malt body.
versus
2) Surly Abrasive Ale (9.2%): A West-Coast IPA from Minnesota with flavors of earthy orange, toasted caramel, and bitter pine. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Happy Friday BeerAdvocates and a good time for a West-Coast IPA Battle. First is Sierra Nevada Celebration. Resinous citrus and pine. Soapy orange citrus. Caramel malt, but also a robust bitterness. Excellent this year.
Next is Surly, a DIPA. Abrasive. Similar caramel malt but more pinecone and bitter pine notes. More bitter and not as sweet. Overall these were more similar than I expected. Hard to beat Surly Abrasive with the robust bitterness.
Winner: Surly Abrasive

Yep, been enjoying it since 2010. 15 years of Elevated for me....
Previously, I thought Marble IPA (also in ABQ, NM) was hoppy AF, then this came along....

It's very good - more of a WC style than a hazy. Nice hoppiness and a subtle hint of pineapple going on. Worthy of your hard earned cash Cheers!!

 

I've had both (quite aways back), but Elevated remains on my beer brain way more. Cheers!
