Dogfish Head Brewing Triple Decadence 30th Anniversary World Wide Stout. Love the label art on this, 15.0% ABV; 4.36 overall

Love cutting & pasting; here's the descriptor

In honor of three decades of Dogfish Head, we’re crafting a Triple Decadence World Wide Stout that celebrates our history with three notable aging woods.

This brew will blend together three threads of barrel-aged World Wide Stouts – World Wide Stout aged in Palo Santo as a celebration of our innovative approach to producing beers; World Wide Stout aged in Let’s Get Lost Whiskey barrels as a nod to our award-winning whiskey and years of distillation; and World Wide Stout aged in Utopias Barrels to salute our friends at Sam Adams and their incredibly intricate and unique Utopias

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing, fair amount of viscosity

S: Some dark chocolate notes, some leather & salted plums along with prunes. Boozy caramel notes once warm, treacle & toasted coconut at the very end

T: Some charred barrel notes, raisins, cleaner oak barrel notes, Baker's Chocolate & a touch of salt up front. Dark Chocolate, still a salty edge, a little caramel & woody hops & barrel dryness as this beer warms up, cola notes too, just a little booze edge. Finishes with Dark Chocolate more salted plum & a little treacle, a kiss of Port Wine as well& a little caramel and praline

MF: Medium/chewy body, fairly firm carbonation, pretty warming. Body thins a touch once warm

Drinks super easy for the heft, plenty of barrel, rounded into form once warmed up

Love that beer, still not sure I want to buy that mixed 12. Sam always inserts turds/sheisse.

I really enjoyed your summary of the tour @JackHorzempa , and glad you experienced beer tie-ins during your visit.

You did graciously share a bottle of Blue Mountain Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Hollow , which I enjoyed in my hotel Sunday evening before moving to stay my final night in Downtown Philadelphia. Really enjoyed that beer (4.25 overall,.4.5 for Taste).

Glad you enjoyed the beer, and experienced both head and carbonation, however faint. I poured aggressively and had no head, even brief, or carbonation. I think my note in the overall comments regarding something possibly wrong with the individual bottle I received is a distinct possibility due to your and pretty much all other reviews posted to date.

Will return soon with an early Saturday morning selection.

Greetings, New Beer People! Fist bump to @ChicagoJ for opening the bar.

Right now I'm finishing a beer which I will make a point of buying more of this weekend. A surprisingly good beer to start this New Beer Weekend.

Threshold King Neptune Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Baltic Porter

    Look:
This red-brown beer sports ruby highlights and a thick head of dense light brown foam pockmarked with larger bubbles. The head doesn't last long, but it produces lovely tan lacing.

    Smell:
The nose is a delightful combo of malted milk balls, caramel, raisins, prunes, a splash of coffee, and really well integrated whiskey barrel character.

    Taste:
As good as the nose is, the flavor is even better. Milk chocolate and whiskey make a superbly smooth intro that's satisfyingly sweet. Caramel follows, then gives way to chewy dried fruit (mostly raisin with some fig and prune). The beer dries out in the finish, with roasted malt and mild coffee notes coming forward. There's also a breath of black licorice and an intriguing hint of something woody and spicy. Whiskey makes a well-timed appearance at the end.

    Feel:
The body feels light for a 10% porter, but the texture is silky. The carbonation and alcohol warmth provide a gentle counterpoint.

    Overall:
King Neptune is the best beer I've had from Threshold by a margin best measured in parsecs. It's everything I want from a Baltic porter: flavors of chocolate, caramel, and an abundance of rich fruit, with sweetness up front and a drying finish. The whiskey barrel character fits beautifully. It could use a fuller body, but that's a minor point which doesn't diminish how surprisingly good this beer is.

Hey NBW, off from work Friday and tried some new brews. I'd like to share them here! First up is:

Nice stab at a PB stout here. Pours with a lush khaki head that dissipates leaving behind a simple carbonation with no lacing. Stout 101 here. Scents are molasses, syrup, and roasty malts. Flavors follow suit with subtly sweet notes of maple syrup and tiny bits of peanut butter. I get hints of vanilla. Take note, this is a stout first. PB is playing a back up role, which IMO is a great concept. Viscosity is average for this ABV, no harm done there. Overall, worth visiting. Not otherworldly by any stretch. If you're looking for a PB bomb, this is not it.

Okay, time for a change of pace from a malt filled week with my last IPA from the BA Big Beer Box. This is my first Trillium beer.

11/22/25 - (Can, Home) (Chicago, IL) Can Notes:
Purchased via the Beer Advocate Fall 2025 Big Beer Box. 12 oz canned 9/22/25 @ 9:29: 25 AM. 8.0% ABV Double India Pale Ale brewed in Massachusetts. Keep cold, drink fresh. Brewed and packaged by Trillium Brewing Company, Canton and Boston Massachusetts.

Appearance: Poured most of the can after two pours into the BA Barrel Shaped tumbler glass, yielding a pulpy orange juice hazy base and generous white creamy bubbly white head that ends up leaving a thin fine bubble cover over most of the base, strong around the rim. Looks really good. 4.5

Aroma: Strong and wonderful pineapple, citrus, peach and grapefruit. All come together well, want to dive in to gulp this down. 4.5

Taste: Consistent with the aroma, pineapple and citrus, peach and a little grapefruit. Nice blend, really hard to not drink all this pretty quickly. Thankfully the review is slowing me down to enjoy this a bit longer. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Faint gentle carbonation, drinks like a 5-6% Pale Ale / IPA. Near medium body, nice balance with a consistent hop bitterness helping contain the bountiful fruit flavors. Easy pineapple finish. 4.75

Overall: This is what an NEIPA should be. Bursting with flavor, well balanced, easy drinking. Pure bliss. Thank you Trillium, I must seek more of your beers and thank you Beer Advocate for including this in your Big Beer Box! 4.5

Really glad I finally got to a Trillium beer today. Will go with my final BA Big Box can tomorrow and leave the 2024 bottles for Thanksgiving Weekend (hoping BA opens Thursday BA Time).

I was at Saint Arnold's Brewery and Beer Garden yesterday. They had a new IPA on tap just for the beer garden.

Simply and aptly called West Coast IPA, 6.5% ABV

Pours a brilliantly clear golden/orange color. Effervescent bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass all the way to the top. A two finger white head forms with good retention and lace. This is a looker.
Aroma is pine resin tree sap and citrus/orange rind in the nose. Simple but clean and enjoyable.
Taste wise, like the nose, pine resin and citrus pith/rind up front. There is a touch of sweetness in the middle, but a lingering bitterness is strong and dries everything out perfectly.
A medium to full body. Crisp effervescent carbonation, that is super clean and finishes wonderfully dry. I can easily come back to this. Well done all around.

This should be a year round offering, and sold everywhere. A legit classic West Coast IPA that I really like. Get to the breweries beer garden to have some now. Before its gone.

Overall score is 4.11, easy A- and I can see myself upping the score after more tries.

Happy New Beer weekend beer friends, this is one of my favorite weekends of the year; knowing that only a 2.5 day week greets me on Monday and it is the start of the holiday season, good beer, good food, and cold quiet weather. Went out earlier this AM to grab 10 lbs of Jersey sweet potatoes for what I bring each year to Thanksgiving, looking forward to the smell of it cooking in a few days now.

In beer news, I drank this one last night because I was inspired to open a new one and was craving bright hop character, luckily I had this in the fridge courtesy of my dad. He gave me a bottle last week and it is a beer I don't recall ever having, or reviewing. Much like my post last week this beer comes from Troegs...their winter seasonal IPA, it's got chinook in it so I kind of knew it would be a winnner, it was a pretty good one.

Troegs - Blizzard of Hops (IPA 6.4%)

Pours a dull slightly cloudy, but mostly clear, straw color; head is white, semi bubbly but clumps together nicely.

Very bright nose, there’s light tropical character but it’s mostly pungent citrus with bright pine needles that tingle the nose nicely.

The taste leans into citrus; little pineapple with a really awesome finish that really mixes pith and tropical like grass character, really pleasant.

Body is medium; softened ever so slightly but it’s really knocked in a place with a biting bitterness, almost tingly, noticeably dry but not overly so; good stickiness to this beer, its lightly refreshing on the finish.

Yea, this is an IPA I can get behind: It’s got a unique mix of hop flavor that is very tasty, but hard to describe for me, coupled with a really pleasant biting, tingly, and clean finish.

    ------------------------

May or may not have another new one this weekend, if I don't though I look forward to reading about all the beers we all drink together in the next two days.

My first Ever Grain beer, and man is this one great hazy IPA. One of the best pours I've ever seen from a NEIPA. Cumulus clouds of foam you almost can lay on. More than ample lacing is left behind as this goes down the glass. Weedy Citra vibes run up the olfactory nerve. As sips are taken, excellent blends of hop flavors can be had including: sharp melon and citrus, honeydew, papaya, dank weed, and hints of white grape. Avoids falling into the ubiquitous Citra category as there is more complexity here. Hints of resin coat the palate. The only slight knock holding this back from Treehouse greatness is the body and carbo are ever so minimally light. Overall, this is an outstanding entry into this brewery's goods, and I can't wait to explore more of their wares.

    Weissbier Hell from Klosterbrauerei Andechs

Poured a 500ml bottle dated 12/12/2025 into a weizen glass. A four finger fluffy white head on a cloudy dirty orange. The head diminishes to a layer that sticks around to the end. Sheets of fine lacing.

Banana bread and clove in the nose. The taste follows the nose. Bready, creamy. Very distinct. Nutmeg. Some pepper. A long dry estery finish.

Creamy texture. A medium/light body and good carbonation. Overall a unique and high quality Hefeweizen.

I usually avoid TIPAs because they don't hide the ethanol very well over and over again. Trying this one is a great thing. Pours heavily with ample head and residual lacing following up. Nice start. Scents are quite nice with sweet blueberry, strawberry, and fresh oranges leading the way. This is so promising. Drinking provides high quality hop flavors sans booze. Dank peaches, oranges, and strawberries for days. A heavily oated profile keeps things in check and allows this beer to dance across the palate. A purveying resinous quality lingers and continues the experience. This is one great TIPA. One of the best TIPAs I've ever had

From a 16oz can with no date on it.

This is an extremely murky looking beer in my glass. The pale golden color is impossible to see any light through. The head that forms is a 2 finger white color. The head retention is decent and there's a bit of lacing on the glass.
Lots of juice in the aroma from the hops. I get tons of tropical hops. Pineapple, grapefruit is what my nose picks up on.
The flavor is dominated from the hops. The grapefruit flavor seems to start it off for me. This pineapple seems to have a hint of dank and earthiness to it. The pineapple then comes into play. There's a nice smooth bitterness on the finish.
The body seems quite solid to me. It does have a great softness to it and a juicy feeling.
A solid beer made by two solid St. Paul breweries. Glad I bought it.

I'll finish this while burping hops up for a while, then I'll be back for another new to me beer.

Our daughter was on a business trip this past week, so we watched over her two boys. They're both teenagers and they can act like idiots from time to time. To our delight they both behaved beautifully. No fights, not even a little disagreement.
My new beer for today is Tiki Sour, from the Big Beers box.
One of the weirdest-appearing beers I have ever seen. It has the look and consistency of a mango smoothie. Sludge sticking to the glass.
Not much aroma. Subtle tropical fruit.
Taste of mango, pineapple, and orange. Ginger and a hint of rum come in later.
Very sweet, soft in the mouth. A little bit of heat from the ginger lingers.
Very easy to drink, which may be dangerous, given its 10% ABV.

I found this at a store of a colleague of mine. It was the last bottle of it there, and I try to help her get rid of beers that previous management brought in that have lingered too long. I had a lot of concern that this beer could be a complete mess.

Well, I can say that this beer is downright amazing. Part of me wishes I would have saved it to share at Black-Out Friday at work next week. But, how could I have known it would hold up? No way unless I tried it.

From a 750ml bottle. Best by 02/2018. Tried on 11/22/2025

This could be amazing or a total disaster.
There was a huge pop when I pulled off the cork. This beer is mostly clear with a hint of murk to it. Amber in color. There's a 2 finger white head to the beer that seems to dissipate fairly quickly and leaves no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is wild and funky as hell. I was getting while pouring. As I get in close I get a nice hit of pumpkin spice. The nutmeg seems to be the main aroma, and it is quite warming to my nose.
There's a warm flavor of nutmeg that kicks it off. The rest of the spices, clove and cinnamon kick in and add to the warm flavor. The beer isn't as wild and funk as I was expecting, or fearing. The funk and tartness are well balanced with the spices. They work hand in hand on my taste buds. There's no cardboard flavors from excessive age.
The body is bubbly, and I was expecting this based on how it looked and from the Brett used in the beer. The feeling is quite full bodied.
How on earth did this last this long, and be amazing? I am in shock, surprised and happy. I would say to get it if you somehow see it in a store.

I'll enjoy this for a bit and then later move on to something else. That something else may go into Deep Wood territory out of a state that doesn't touch mine. May be a Revolution.
