    Weather is exactly the same here in N. GA. mild and rainy. Yep, got the whole week off, so I'm practicing my retirement lifestyle - :joy:! So, what the heck is a Vegan Quad? Is there meat in my normal quad?

    1) Surly Oktoberfest (6.0%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of crisp pale malts, Munich malts, light honey and floral notes
    versus
    2) BlackStack Late to The Party (6.0%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of smooth bread, honey, and light floral notes, smooth and mildly sweet. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Minnesota Festbier Battle. Two of my favs. First is Surly. Crisp honey and floral notes. Outstanding.
    Next is BlackStack, a slightly sweeter festbier. Also, excellent, but Surly's is hard to beat this year.
    Winner: Surly Oktoberfest

    look: 3.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

    Clear, dark amber color; virtually no carbonation; no head. Christmas cookie nose; ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg; sugary cookie dough element. The taste amplifies the smell; richer flavors; holiday spices blending with toffee and lightly burnt sugar; roasted nuts; subliminal booziness. Heavy, syrupy body; lip smacking stickiness; excellent underlying sense of warmth.

    The smell and taste are phenomenal and save this beer from its visual and carbonation deficiencies. Part of this may be due to crowler, but the real test would be to go back to the brewery and have a fresh on tap version of this beer.

    From the Alaskan Adventure Pack, 2 IPA's and 2 Pale Ales in a nice 12X12 box for the outlandish price of $4.99. I thought this beer was terrific. Class 5 from Alaskan.

    It was a long, slow drive down to Chapel Hill today. I guess Tuesday of Thanksgiving week is the new Wednesday - travel-wise. I lugged our stuff into the hotel room and am having a can I brought from home: Kane’s Overhead Krush. Will head out soon for an early dinner downtown. Cheers!
