    1) Drekker Metaphase (8.2% canned 1/16/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Citra & Nelson Sauvin for flavors of lemon and orange citrus, green citrus, grape, guava, and juicy pine.
    versus
    2) BlackStack Honeymoon Phase (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Mosaic and Krush for flavors of bright pink grapefruit, orange, pineapple, danke pine and stonefruit. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Another IPA Battle. I've reviewed these a number of times already. Both with New Zealand hops. First Drekker Metaphase. Bright orange, white grape, and zesty floral notes. As it ages, getting some more of the sweet grape and berries from the Nelson. One of their all-time best.
Next is BlackStack. Mosaic and Krush hops. Stonefruit, passionfruit upfront. Then some tropical berries and lime notes. This was sort of hot upfront, but settling down a bit and drinking very nice.
    Winner: Drekker Metaphase

Wow. With all the rain here as a deep freeze takes its grip will prove to be rock hard soon. Down we go into chillzville. At least we'll get some white stuff to cover all the dead shizz.
Wyfe picked this up in Rockford a few wks ago. Looks pretty insane. Must try.
Hubbard's Cave El Zacaton Imp Stout 12% fermented on toasted oak with almond flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans, ancho chilies, habanero chilies. Yes sir. Kill. Cheers!!

Well lets see...at Great Heights and had their newish IPA...In House IPA #16 which is maddeningly not helpful ha.

Anyway,,,here you are, with a handy dandy review

Pours a mostly clear pale yellow color. A white head rises to about two fingers, and gently recedes to a ring.
Aroma up front is resin and pine...then a more melon fruity aroma. Nice, but rather standard.
Taste wise, like the nose, a bit of pine like tree sap flavors. A woody flavor. Then that modern melon fruit salad character takes over. Just enough bitterness to say its there.
A medium body with low carbonation. Not as clean as I would like, but its fine. Easy enough to drink, but again, a bit standard.

Nothing really wrong here. It is a fine middle of the road IPA, and there is nothing at all wrong with that. If this was more crisp with a better bitter finish, I would probably like it more.

Overall score is 3.58, solid B

Next up from Great Heights is their West Coast Style Fruity Pellets. I reviewed this last week or so, and very much enjoyed it...same goes for my second try. A very nice West Coast style IPA.

Then the Great Heights Barrel Aged Barelywine...oh this is a big and enjoyably sipper.

Side note: You probably haven't noticed me starting my third Alice McDermott novel on a week. I have always considered here a favorite writer of mine, but these three novels have been sitting around for a while and I haven't gotten to them till now. They just reaffirms that yeah, she is one of the best

3 mile walk, $2 draft Tuesday here. Today's brews, Boulevard Nutcracker Ale, Three Floyds Zombie Dust, 7 Hills Dough'p Show Pastry Stout, and (not pictured) Boulevard Rum-Barrel Aged Pecan Pie Brown Ale. Plus a fried portabella mushroom appetizer with house dipping sauce that was amazing! Cheers!

After Great Heights Brewing...on down the road to Les Baget. Which makes one of the best Banh Mi in town. It the ultimate "fusion" sandwich, even more so here. With smoked brisket, house baked french baguette, pate, roasted red jalapenos, and all the Vietnamese veggies you could ask for...one of the best. Oh and a Yellow Rose in the glass

Of course we are all celebrating with one of the best beers ever:

I might make a post in the East Coast thread, but I’ve been having trouble finding anything exciting in the Center City shops lately (The Foodery, VIP Market, even Di Bruno’s).

My wife just reminded me about The Bottle Shop on Passyunk — I was actually one of their first customers back in the day — so I’m planning to check them out again too.

But if any Philly BAs have other go-to spots in South Philly or Center City that I’m overlooking, I’d love a reminder. Always good to revisit the old haunts and discover new ones. Cheers!

Wenceslas - a Czech Dark Lager from Art History. You can't go wrong with lagers from Art History, especially this dark lager on a dreary November day.
