Today, it's cold but still beautiful, out here in McGregor--and both cats Gracie and Sundae wanted to help me check out today's new brews: First, with Gracie, it's my twenty-first beer from Barrie, Ontario's Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery--their 6% Roll-Up Pomelo IPA...



Next, with Sundae, it's my fourteenth of Toronto, Ontario's Godspeed Brewery's handiworks--their 5.1% Kiri Belgian Witbier...

Finally for today, again with Sundae, it's my sixteenth brew from Etobicoke, Ontario's Great Lakes Brewery--their 3.2% Superlite Lager...

The Pomelo IPA is also shown bookending articles on the must-see movies The Wages of Fear (Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1953) and Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954)--easily two of the finest pieces of world cinema that I have ever seen...



Tomorrow: Three more new beer explorations, from the following breweries:
--Forked River Brewing Company (London, Ontario; my seventh);
--Halo Brewery (Toronto, Ontario; my fifteenth); and

Thank you again for raising a glass for my father — that meant a lot. And cheers as well to all the fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers who aren’t with us anymore.

I’ve always had a deep love for my family roots, and I’m lucky that both sides have incredible stories. My American great-grandfather was a well-known lawyer in North Jersey who lost his entire fortune during the Depression, yet still kept his dignity and character until he passed in 1959. And on my Italian side, my bisnonno spoke nine languages and baked the most elaborate French and Neapolitan pastries you could imagine — right here in South Philadelphia.

Remembering them all keeps their spirit alive, and I really appreciate you taking a moment to honor my dad along with me. Cheers, my friend.

 

Good morning BAs! Home from my BCBS Black Friday run…chilly breezy 40s at 9am; still, a handful of us hardy souls lined up at the TW a few minutes before opening. This year we got all variants (except Proprietors) so I bought at least one of each.

Trying out the new 10oz format:



Bottled 28Aug25. Poured at 54° Bourbon boozy (14.8%) delicious, but not as chocolate fudgey as the past couple of years. A little cherry cola in the finish? Still world class, and I’m not hating the tiny bottle format.

We’ve got a beer meet up later today so I’ll try to behave myself until then. Cheers and have Happy Thanksgiving weekend y’all!
