This is a really good one from Masthead. You can taste the cinnamon and ginger in this one really well

    In honor of yesterday’s theme…

Here Comes Santa Claws - KCBC

Well this one is more in the “spirit of the celebration” on the outside label, than the beer itself. So why not dress it up with “proper” glassware?

and as for what follows, yes. Yes I am ashamed of myself. I’m a horrible horrible person. I kinda feel bad for the poor fella.

Look: brown with a tan head, spotty lacing
Smell: malty, toffee, cocoa, spice, fruity
Taste: rich, toffee, cocoa, spicy, cherries
Feel: med body, low carbo, dry, light bitterness
Overall: 6.7%. Pleasantly surprised by how good this is. Bought for the Holiday Beer Tasting! Notes of toffee, cocoa and spice are front and center. Fruity smell and taste of cherries came thru as it warmed. Tastes really good. Wish I had more. Thanks to this Tasting Event, Jubelale has now been added to my Christmas list. Cheers!

Samichlaus is one of my favorite beers, I have a bunch of bottles in the cellar going back 15+ years. Definitely a beer that cellaring time does it well

Wasn’t expecting much from this one, and that’s what it’s delivering — a watery AAL vibe devoid of any character. Getting it out of the way.

I said in my post yesterday that I would be back today with a report that compares a '24 Old Fezziwig with a '25 version, but I have to renege on that. My wife and I again went to a local brewery (Handmap) for a late lunch, and I had enough beer there which means I can't think about drinking two Fezziwigs tonight. Maybe tomorrow, although I have a different beer earmarked for then, or perhaps we can keep this thread open until after the holidays (but relieve @thebeers of the host duties) so I'll have more time to get to that experiment, and even the 5 other holiday beers in the fridge..

Since Handmap doesn't have a specific winter/holiday beer, the best that I can do today is report on a small pour of a 2022 BBA stout with chocolate that's been aged in an Evan Hill bourbon barrel. It's a Christmas treat to drink a beer like this, so there's my justification.

I especially liked the Light Up Chalet Wreath Advent, too. @67elbirdos, does that have drawers for advent-sized gifts?

Thanks, @GreenBayBA. I wanted folks to see a proper Winter One Hander. I fear the art is being lost.

Great beer choice, too. Happy Holidays! :beers:

    Rogue Ales -- Santa’s Private Reserve (2025)
    Stout
    ABV: 5.7%; pouring temperature: 45.0 ℉; bottling info: 2025
    Source: local purchase

    3.74/5 rDev -3.6%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Clear and dark pour; mahogany red richness; opaque in the glass; pale khaki head, dense and thick, rich sponginess to the appearance. Very faint malt nose; delicate caramel. Respectable dark malt base flavor; suggestions of milk and dark chocolate; roasted grains; grain char bitterness. Medium to medium-heavy mouthfeel; smooth and silky; a touch of lip-smacking stickiness.

Definitely a nice stout, and if marketed as such, would be good 'as is'. Yet, as a holiday-themed stout, this is rather pedestrian. Nothing really marks it as a 'special' holiday beer.

    -----------------------------------------------------

...there's a reason I stopped by Rogue Ales long ago...it's not that their offerings were bad, but in a tight and competitive market, there was little to set them apart from many locals I have access to let alone other fine regional and national distributed beers...I mean, try to find unique beers from them (not now, but even a few years back - no-go)...kind of like Boston Beer Co. and Dogfish Head nowadays...

We're expecting a touch of snow tonight so I have this lovely 12 percenter to keep me cozy.

A long time fave, and it doesn't disappoint. Complex and creamy smooth, with just a smidge of alcohol showing through.
