Guide for adding pictures to the forums and database

I do not use the app but @keilerdunkel was kind enough to share some app advice in this post for another BA user. Hopefully this helps you as well.

 

I use Imgur to host my photos for this site but I don't use the app, I just use the website through the browser. It's still a simple process, upload the pic, click on the copy link button for the BB code and then just paste in the reply box. Job done.

 

What @Jaycase said above. Imgur must have changed things in the desktop version, so it's not BA or you. If you click on Add Post you get the new screen with a Copy Link feature. But that link doesn't work here on BA because it isn't the Direct Link.

I kept looking around for the DD and finally found a link to "Use old screen" or something like that. Imgur would produce a box asking why and I clicked on the reply that the new screen doesn't give me what I need. Eventually when you click on your username you get a menu that allows you to View Images, not Posts. Click on that and you're back to the old procedure. I still have to fiddle with it each time I use Imgur, but clicking on Images is what you need to find.

 

Something has changed because when I click on copy link the BB link isn't there anymore. It's just one version of a link that shows up (along with some social media icons/links) and it doesn't work on BA.

That's strange that the change isn't universal. Maybe the browser is the reason - I use Google Chrome. But it is a change made by Imgur since they provide the 'Use old screen' link.

 

@Snowcrash000 @Todd It looks like the postimages hyperlink in the initial post has a typo - it's going to postimages "comma" org instead of "dot" org

So I've def gotten much better at uploading beer pics, but for one lingering issue: the black border, either on sides or top& bottom. I've followed the 150x300, and 100KB.
Im thinking it's in my original pic. Should I be taking close ups with very little borders, or from further away with more space around photo? Does it matter?
Any know why the black borders?

What is an example of a recent pic that you posted that has a black (or any) border? I've not noticed any on pics that you've posted. I think any border on a pic is unusual and likely points to your camera settings or the third party software that you use.

That looks like is comes from a screen print with that graphic at the bottom.

 

Oh, sorry for not being clear.... I meant when uploading a photo for a beer, not in forums. That part I finally figured out

 

I now see that you did say that it's beer pics at issue, so it's my bad for misreading your post.

When does the border show up after you take a pic of a beer? Is your camera adding it? Can't you crop it off before adjusting for the 100x300 requirement. I find that taking a pic from farther away gives me more flexibility when cropping, etc. but that's something you have to tinker with to define the distance away.

I believe I have a solution for this. I have been using ImageResizer. After uploading the image and entering the width and height, there is a checkbox for Lock Aspect Ratio. I uncheck this box, then another checkbox for Background Fill appears. Uncheck this box. If the box remains checked it prompts for a background color, with black as the default.

I was having the issue with black borders on my photos for beer can images. Unchecking the Background Fill solved this issue. Hope this makes sense.

Edit: The above assumes you have already cropped your image before uploading to ImageResizer. I have been cropping the images pretty tightly so not much border is seen past the edges of the can.

 

Lol.yeah, I finally figured this was the issue, as well! I made background white, and it seemed to work. I'll try unchecking it next time tho. Thanks

 

It still works on my iPad, as you describe, but has never worked on my phone

 

I find uploading photos for beers and places much easier than for posts. I take the picture and do an initial sizing and cropping on my iPhone. I air-drop it to my Mac where I can directly crop and re-size using the native photo editor - remembering to allow it to change the proportions to meet the pixel requirements - and save it to a jpg - and it is ready to upload.
I,don’t have an issue with borders.
