...I should have mentioned to pour it slowly so the sediment doesn't cloud the beer...most HoTD beers are bottle conditioned...

Picked this up yesterday, and enjoying it today. 2025 Thomas Hardy's. Fantastic stuff. Rich toffee, prunes, raisins, slight vanilla, honey, and a hint of maple.

Does the sediment alter the taste/flavors of the beer?

...I think it does a bit...perhaps a more yeasty / doughy / buttery aspect...generally, I don't mind sediment much...since most of it is yeast sediment, I just look at it as a bonus B vitamin boost :sunglasses:...

Another day, another barleywine. This time It's a 2025 bottle of Thomas Hardy's Ale The Historical. This is mean to be similar to the very first release of Thomas Hardy's Ale back in 1968, in which it was aged in French Oak. I can imagine how excited people must have been to drink this sort of beer back then! This is just lovely.

Dan, glad to see you are back more frequently, hope all is well in your world. I'll always be thankful for your sharing a EH Taylor bottle 3 years ago!
Getting into my last bottle of 2025 Bigfoot, tasting solid!

Damn tasty stuff, light sweetness in the form of baked apples and brown sugar with a nice bitter bite at the end. Thanks again Micah!

Tonight Im having Barreled Souls and their Bombs Over Barley Double Barrel aged barleywine. This is the 2025 vintage and the beer was aged in Widow Jane Bourbon barrels and then transferred to Russell's reserve Bourbon barrels. Total aging was 25 months and 11 days!! Beer is 17.2%. I got to add this one to the BA DB!!

    Onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 250 ml bottle of this beer. Picked up as part of my bottle society stash. The beer pours a rich mahogany color with minimal , yet dense khaki colored head. This foam sticks around as a sturdy edging throughout the entire sampling.
Aroma on this beer is pleasant with toffee and some light vanilla giving way to bourbon and some fusol peppery booze when I take a really deep sniff. No hint of any hop aromas on this beer.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with sticky texture that coats my palate with each sip. very minimal and fairly gentle carbonation. Definitely feels like a sipping beer.
Flavor is caramel and toffee with a little butterscotch mixed in, not diacetyl more like a werthers hard candy. Fairly sweet note here and some brown sugar and bourbon notes follow, then a pretty good hit of warming peppery booze. The heat lingers long after each swallow. Never any hop character on the flavor profile either.
This is a pretty boozy beer with tasty flavor on the sweeter end of the spectrum. Glad to have tried this and would very happily open and drink another bottle if given the opportunity.
    4.46 in the BA DB

    Cross post from WBAYDN:
Enjoying the last of a "dessert" American Barleywine aged in gin barrels from Sierra Nevada's Alpha Hop Society 2024 themed club (Breakfast, Day Drinks, Dessert).
Acquired in December 2024, round 1 was had in March and came across with bolder gin botanicals and lemon zest. The blueberry adjunct is subtle, and it seems everything has mellowed and blended together.
    Cheers!
    Tom
