Nobody really knew where to put this hybrid, but Cold IPA now has a home!

I’m only speaking from info on where I am…I think when a new style gets added it should be because the collective beer world has accepted it as a style.

Italian Pilsner is a perfect example IMO, “style” or style, aka whether one agrees or not, it’s hard to deny that year after year I still see many breweries release their versions. The added style helps when adding beers and it also removes “bastardized,” as some have said in other threads, pilsners from the pure ones, win win.

Cold IPA on the other hand, at least locally, I haven’t seen since that one year when it was a thing. Are others still seeing this style as prevalent in there region or has it also fizzled out?

I could hit some shops here in Helsinki and probably find a half dozen Cold IPAs brewed by Finnish brewers who distribute in the area.

Then I see the benefit of the added style if that’s the case. I do wonder that if I went out to more breweries if I would see more on tap nowadays than in cans at the stores.

Thanks Todd. If I leave a cold IPA outside in the summer, does it become a hot IPA?

It's definitely less of a thing than it used to be. I also think it's mostly marketing. It will probably never fully go away but there are fewer

I also think a lot of brewers are making something that would qualify but don't call them Cold IPA now since it's not really a vogue term anymore

That's not a Cold IPA. Cold IPA is basically an IPA brewed using lager yeast. I'm not entirely sure what the difference between Cold IPA and an IPL is, aside from marketing slang.

Woohoo! I enjoy Cold IPa’s and agree they are distinct enough to deserve their own style

Beyond the lager yeast, a Cold IPA will often use a cereal adjunct like an AAL. Makes it more crisp. One could even say that they're "as cold as the Rockies."

Cold IPAs? I guess this means the next style to be added will be Pizza.

I notice, @Todd , that as you’ve added/updated beer styles over the past few weeks, you’ve also added those styles to their respective places on the “Glassware for Beer” page. Nicely done!
