I'm giving it serious consideration this coming year, but I don't have high hopes. That said, you never know. One beer hidden in a closet, and three beers removed from the fridge. What are your thoughts? Brutal honesty is encouraged. Cheers!

I might as well. Doc says with elevated liver enzymes I shouldn't be drinking at all. I've had lots of practice not drinking lately, so it should be an easy transition.

Definitely been considering and with the closing of 2 of my favorite breweries in the new year, there's no reason to want to buy anything. Athletic has also stepped up their game and lowered prices, so that's also a good substitute.

I've done it for a few years now (this being 4th or 5th, can't readily recall). I find it a good reset all around.

Yes, this will be the 7th? year. It’s easy for me, I know not so much for others. My better half has a struggle and has never gone more that 10 days. I average only about 2.5 beers a day over a year. Most days less and once a week or so none. Even a day or two here and there not drinking helps out. I drink a good amount of tea in January and ease back into beer in February. Will be working on clearing the cellar again, getting close to a few mixed cases of 12oz. For me going dry is a nice way to show myself it’s ok to do and that I can, I also like the few pounds I lose. I have been pretty thin, put a few extra on this year due to being a bit less active. I do drink on New Year’s Day at a gathering that’s been going on for over 30 years in some location or another. I go dry on 2 January and come back a few days into February. Probably not come here much on January, if at all.

    Enjoy

Dry February is a much better idea. Fewer days.

In past years I always considered dry January but rationalized that I had a bunch of hoppy beers in the fridge that I didn't want to sit there and age for an extra month. This year I planned ahead and haven't bought any recent hoppy beers, so I'm thinking I'll switch to full-time NA beers this time and stay 'dry' in January. (I normally have an NA beer several times a week to balance out my daily regular beer.)

I’m doing it. On sabbatical right now so I’m hitting the gym everyday and enjoying my beers until 11pm on the 31st. January is going to be a reset month for me.

Absolutely not! December is a brutal month for me work wise, so I can’t wait for January to arrive! My vacation starts 1/3/26 and I’m going to be drinking early and often!

When I go prolonged periods without beer I tend to substitute it with soda. In my mind, one beer is healthier, err um, slightly less unhealthy than one Pepsi.

If I really wanted to be healthy I could just totally give up both beer and soda, but where’s the fun in that?

I’ll pass on dry January, but best wishes to those who choose to partake!

Best wishes to those who do--I would never criticize someone for taking a break. At my age (52) I probably should.

That said, I'm a "never on a school night" drinker, so at least 20 days out of every month are "dry" for me as it is.

I'm not specifically planning on Dry January. But I do see that I'm not drinking as much as I have been in the past - These days I'm not having a beer as often as I am of an evening. I'll most often have a few on a weekend, or non-work days, but between my kid's hockey schedule, plus work and so on, by the time I get to settle down, it's basically too late to open one.
I still have plenty of beer down in the cellar, plus homebrew, but it's lasting longer than it used to.

I have the best excuse to imbibe in January because my birthday is in it. That said, I’ve always thought that if I did have a dry period, I would do it in quarters. Every 3 months I would take a week off = 30 days in the end. That said, I’m not any closer to doing that either. Cheers to those that abstain though!

I was totally going to do Dry January until there were like 50 new beer styles that popped up on this site I need to try.

I drink in moderation and almost always on weekends only. I only get 52 opportunities per year, can't spare four. Cheers.
