Fairly recently, user @brewme asked a questions regarding *likes* and how they were handed out by our various members. I’m on another forum powered by Xenforo just like BeerAdvocate which use multiple reactions; nothing childish or puerile. Examples: To only try or show a handful of interest? @Todd: would you be able or agreed to adding more reacts than just like here? Thanks.
Interesting concept but I think the current system is optimal. All the different emotions require too much time and concentration in order to select the reaction you want. Also, adding dislikes or negative emotions would in all likelihood cause strife and division among our little forum. Currently, on the rare occasion I see a post that I genuinely dislike I actually have to type a well-thought response instead of merely selecting , or (imagine the next finger over). On a somewhat related note, I really wish we had a live long and prosper hand gesture emoticon.
I don't think it's necessary. If I disagree with something enough, I'll quote you. Otherwise, ignore and go on with your life, just like you do in real life.
I started using BA as a way to keep track of the beers I tried and also to see an assessment of a beers quality. It was only much later that I discovered the posting aspect. There seems to be some expectation about when one should like posts. I guess I’m not of the Facebook generation so I don’t understand the value of worrying about other people’s posting habits. Having more emojis to better express beer-related sentiments might make sense.
Then I'll have to go back and unhate all the posts from users who don't hate my posts. And I'm pretty sure @Resistance88 is just angling for extra beer karma on posts he hates. In all seriousness, well as serious as I can be after a couple beers, I like it the way it is. We have the emojis and I can't picture myself using anything but the like button. It's one of the things that keeps this a chill community IMHO.
Yeah, I get it. If overall the community is fine with the like only reaction, Ze people hath spoken. Thanks for the feedback anyhow.
This will be supported once I finally upgrade the forums. Was hoping to do so before the end of this year, but now we're looking at sometime before Q2 2026.
On a somewhat related note, I really wish we had a live long and prosper hand gesture emoticon. Eggplant, indeed and...... I DON'T LIKE SPAM!!!!!!!!!!! (insert Monty Python SPAM sketch HERE)[/QUOTE]
