I have never done dry January. I do take 2 days off at a time . Probably should do more than that . Dont want 31 days maybe more like a week more often, which I’ve never done .

Yep, I will be going "dry" - my 4th or 5th year also doing this and find it a nice reset for the new year - lose a little weight, sleep better, etc....
In past years I have tried a crap load of NA beers, which was fun - and they have come a long way in recent years - but think I will not get so crazy with that this January....cheers!

I have tried in the past, but always fail after 10ish days. It’s hard in January with the bowl games and football playoffs. I will try and figure out some sort of hybrid schedule.

My birthday occurs in January. So, no.
I went dry for a month earlier this fall, and it wasn't that difficult. I mostly only drink on weekends anymore.

Wings? No.,. But oysters? Go to the main market and feast!
Maybe give me a shout and the missus and I would take the train and meet up for dinner & brews somewhere! I’m easy to find.,.
Conversely, have you been to Toulouse?
    Cheers!

Absolutely f ing not. My first beer was 16 I think. I will be 60 in a couple weeks. If you drink alcohol on a regular basis for whatever reason you need to to tickle your fancy... taking a month off will not help you. Damage is done. either abstain completely as with any bad habit or...be Hunter Thompson.
    I'll be Hunter Thompson.

There is no way that I can eat oysters and not drink.

These look like both ******* and ballsacks depending on angle? And the nutrients they contain are good for fucking? I need another round.

Probably I should but I know for a fact that I won't. The temptation will be too strong.

Being a Bills fan is probably a good reason to drink.

Next time I’m in Toulouse we should grab a beer. Might be in January, good excuse for us both!

I am as likely to participate in Dry January as I am in No Nut November.

Seriously, I think that alcohol pauses are good for a person if they think that they are starting to drink too much and it's impacting them negatively. I've defintely done it several times in my life.

That said, the gimmicky quitting is BS.

LOL! Would love to visit, but 245 km is a bit tough. Regardless, I'll give you a shout when the date gets closer.

Personally, I love oysters, but my wife doesn't eat them. So unfortunately...

Good luck to all of those that will be going dry for the month. I have dry weeks throughout the year. A specific month has always seemed a bit random to me, and I am going to be visiting Portland in early January and can't resist some great beer. I will, however, be taking several weeks off in January and February, but nothing to do with dry January.

NA beer, to me, is a waste of money and I can't stand it. I would much rather drink flavored sparkling water and it's much cheaper.

I have no issue with the concept, but I don't need arbitrarily to do it in January just because some random people made that a thing. Ditto with making it a month instead of 3 or 6 weeks or whatever.

    Here's my answer:

    "I like beer".

    So no ****ing way.

My 'dry' spells involve 2-3-4 days off after having pushed the envelope waaaay too much the night before, almost always involving having, "just one more", which always seems to be a double-digit alcohol brew or a barrel-aged, really high double-digit alcohol beer.

And then my 2-3-4-day-or-longer 'dry' spell is self-inflicted, knowing I pushed my limits well past what my age can tolerate in one day & I swear I'll never do it again.

Until something happens when I do it again.

But HEY, I'm getting better at only having, "those days" & cutting out that, "just one more" a half-dozen times a year or so & have learned I can only have 2-3/day (especially if they're high alcohol) instead of the 5-6-7 (or 8-9-10 Strohs) I used to go through years & decades ago when I was much younger (and even more thirstier).

Now if'n all the local/area/regional breweries would just cut back on pumping out so many new brews per week (& we're heading into high-alcohol-barrel-aged-stout-barleywine season) why, that would help a lot.

    Hunter S. Thompson indeed.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.....& I'm certainly a professional after all these decades.

I will probably be told to take a week off before surgery. I'll try to cut back and also have some off days to drop some weight before then.
