I am with you Hunter. I need to lose weight and my fave Belgian styles are full of calories and carbs. I will be putting a list of 0 ABV and hopefully lower carb candidates together today.

My biggest problem is taste. Not all but most NA beers have had are not worthy IMHO. The ones that are are usually IPA styles which I have gravitated away from But maybe that is good and will keep me sipping.

My "brutal honesty" is I wish for a wet January instead.

I must be a real hillbilly but what’s the point of NA beers that are pricey, full of sugar and shit? They even make NA wines nowadays.

Haha. I don't mind it. I know how hard it is to abstain whether it's for Dry January or a random 30 days at any given point during the year. I f*cking love beer, so taking off for even a few days can be excruciating.

Probably not because we'll all be staying away from BA to avoid the "we're not so think as you drunk I am" pretentiousness.

I don’t do dry January. I try to go dry from Super Bowl Sunday to the Yankees opening day. Except for St. Patrick’s day.

As a life long skier of Northeast mountains I always loved the slogan of Mad River Glen Ski Area that didn't groom their trails, "Ski It If You Can".

I suggest a slogan for Dry January, "Take a month off from drinking, if you can."

I always read the reasons folks don't want to do Dry January and can't help wondering how many are people who can't do it, and know they can't do it. Ironically, it might benefit those folks most of all.

Not that I want to document "my journey" or that many of you care, but for the first 6 weeks of the year, this is what I'll be doing besides not drinking beer.

Right around a thousand calories a day. Stretching and mobility every day and hitting the gym 4x a week. Figure that I'll be able to lose around 15 lbs. by Valentine's Day.

Stepped on the scale on Christmas night and was a cheeseburger away from 240. Believe it or not, I should be around 220 by NYE. I'm pretty carb-sensitive and retain a lot of water the more carbs I consume. 6 solid weeks of dieting should see me lose about 2.5 lbs a week to get me from 220 to 205, then I'll try to slowly gain back to 220 before I start the next contest prep at the beginning of June.

Fun stuff, if you ask me. Haven't gone more than a couple weeks without beer for years. Anxious to see what it will bring to the table.

Beside the evident health benefits after eating, drinking heavily during holidays season it’s obviously not that bad a theme, and a decade more now trend to call it that.

For health reasons (surgery) this past September; I pretty much quit drinking (yeah meds and booze: I intend to live a bit longer) so beers were far and few for the end of the summer.

The weight loss, being less "goofy" and having a clearer mind was a nice bonus.

We may need to shut down the "What New England Beer Are You Drinking Now" thread for January.

Not for me. I love having some beer while watching football and January is stuffed with NFL playoff games. Not to mention a guys trip to Portland, Maine on MLK weekend this year. I prefer going alcohol free most weeks of the year from about 6 pm Sunday through about 5-6 pm Friday. With the occasional allowance for a grill beer mid week and vacations.

I drink one beer most days, zero beers some days, and rarely two beers in one day. I don't need to lose weight and I survived cancer so, F!ck it for me! You do you however.

I practice "Don't Drink one's self into complete and utter oblivion December," so I see no need to engage in dry January.

I usually indulge 4 nights a week so that averages out to 156 days off a year which works better for me than 31 once.
But as several have said each individual does whats best for themselves
